You can drive the whole thing except a small strip above Lenham, although you can get a permit for that stretch but I haven't bothered yet. Some of the connecting lanes are closed over winter but there's a lot of lanes all over the north downs all the way to the coast virtually.

Either. Clamp co don't seem to have ones that will fit the Freelander. Those second LR ones - do they fit straight onto the modular steelies, I think I read somewhere that they need modding...

Sounds like a fantastic trip. We're also heading down that way over summer this year in the FL so it will be interesting to see what areas get recommended for off roading - although currently not through Portugal. Watching with interest!
