    td5 clutch

I've got an engine crane so that's no problem, I know about the flywheel too, thanks. The reason behind taking the lot out was just to make life easier (all be it a bigger job) but the idea of lowering the box doesn't sound too bad now that I've had a bit of a think about it (I was thinking it...

    td5 clutch

looking at changing my clutch before the weather turns much more, I've had a search around but just ended up with more questions :D What's this about plastic release bearings melting? Do any bushes or anything in the release fork need changing? I'll be doing it on the drive and intend...

Why did you buy a disco!!

Into alsorts of outdoor pursuits, the places I go and things I do - a car's just not built for it. Had a 300tdi laner a few years ago but had to sell for various reasons, knew I'd regret it! So here I am with a recently acquired td5, got the cdl up and running so far, just want some slightly...

    Rattle from clutch release bearing

Do you take the gearboxes apart when doing this "on your back" i would like to do mine sometime soon but can't think of a suitable way to lift it out and back in, it's a long way up to balance it on a trolley jack! Only thing I could think was to take the transfer box, brake drum and as much as...

    Fitted cdl but question.....

Excellent, thanks chaps! I've read that many different bits of info lately, it's all got a bit muddled! Looks like I've got a wire that needs snipping! Anyone know if the transmission tunnel plate (with all the rivets) from a d1 will fit? Would like to have all the gaiters etc where they should be

    Fitted cdl but question.....

Fitted the linkages etc off a 300tdi today to get my centre diff lock up and running, all works as it should including the light on the dash. I did a fair bit of reading up before I started and found several "how to's" which said the three amigos come on when the cdl is engaged with the engine...

Td5 not quite running right - IMHO

Sorry, forgot to mention I put new injector harness in while I was in there.

Td5 not quite running right - IMHO

It's a possibility obviously, I worked as a mechanic for seven years and like to think I can kind of sense when something's amiss but I'm not so arrogant as to claim to always be right. I'll finish the list of things to do anyway and maybe I'll just happen to get it running that bit nicer...

Td5 not quite running right - IMHO

Erm, the story so far..... I've just bought the car (2weeks ago tomorrow), while looking for a td5, I went to view one a year newer (mine's 2000) and it ran really smooth and quiet but had a nasty noise from the gear box and nearly 200000 miles on clock. Mine's done 74k now, didn't come...

    rear door (tailgate) very stuck

It opened!! Not sure how I did it, lots of messing about with bits of welding wire and alsorts but didn't seem to be getting anywhere when I knocked something (no idea what) that moved with a familiar clunk, tried the handle and jobs a good un! New lock fitted and working fine. Thanks for...

    rear door (tailgate) very stuck

Picture is very different to mine (is it a d1? Mine's a d2). Lifting the button or what it opporates doesn't work, I don't know if it would work with the child lock on or not though? The child lock is just a possibility though, it might be stuck for some other reason yet

    rear door (tailgate) very stuck

I'll give it a go, I gave it all a good oiling when I had it out though so can't say I'm holding my breath, can you get at much of the lock through there? Door card's already off by the way Thanks for the help so far guys

    rear door (tailgate) very stuck

yep, doesn't seem to do anything which was why I suspected the child lock's on?

    rear door (tailgate) very stuck

that just sorts a seized outside handle though doesn't it? that's fine, the trouble is the door's closed and locked and I've no way of unlocking it (that I know of).

    rear door (tailgate) very stuck

Can't find quite what I'm looking for, really need help :( My rear central locking wasn't working so I took the module thing out (central locking actuator, latch assy, whatever you call it), cleaned it up a bit and re-installed. Previously, it would lock but not unlock. I plugged it in...

    My new td5.........hmmmmm

Yeah, I thought that was unusual too (no roof bars) never did anything with the ones on my old 300tdi though so doubt I'll miss them. I'd like a heated windscreen again though as it was much appreciated when mr frost had visited. Other than that, I want to get the cdl working, better tyres...

    My new td5.........hmmmmm

It is kinver sand apparently, very nice! It's a td5, gradually working through the minor issues it has. Need to look at the central locking on the rear door - locks but doesn't unlock. The engine's not as sweet as I'd like it to be given its 74k, I'm hoping a good service and adjust the...

    Wheel & Tyre sizes

That's excellent torch1, thankyou very much! Just gotta decide on a size now! Might put some spacers in to lift an inch or so but I've not bought it for laneing so no need to do much, it only needs to get me across fields and their related tracks.

    Wheel & Tyre sizes

I can't get the sticky to work, is is just me or has it (the big list of tyre sizes and required modifications that is) gone?
