Series IIA gear box in series III compatibility

In the event someone stumbles on this looking for the same answer. I went ahead and did the swap. After taking the bell housings off, there is no difference between the transmissions. The bell housings are as different as they can be bolting to the same engine and transmission and all. The...

Just joined the series ownership club.... but..gearbox woe

Ah yes.. the clutch... That may be dragging. Bleed new fluid through it. If its been sitting though.. be prepared for a slave failure.

    Chassis...how dya treat them?

waxoyl is a con. Vegetable"oyl" or good layer of lard would have similar effect and last as long. And maybe give off a more pleasing smoke. One nice thing is that it can be applied to the inside of things.. not a huge advantage.. but its a thing. I've not seen "hammerite"... looks like...

Just joined the series ownership club.... but..gearbox woe

Maybe its broken.. maybe your syncros are broken.. try double clutching it in. What it really comes down to is you're going to have to open it up anyway.. no matter what the problem is.. in all likelihood. So .. why not pop the top and look in.. or just start chasing down a used tranny. I...

    new hood

screw em.. go with the bikini and a coat. They want so much for a set of properly bent electrical conduit. I see them for sale all over the internet in the UK for good prices.. in the US you're looking at about $900-1000 (more if shipped to your home) for a set of sticks and a hood. For a...

    Overdrive questions ???

they're nice.. great for highway.. good for cruising at 30 mph.. REally make the truck work a lot less at highway speeds. But the truck doesn't need to be going on the highway from a safety standpoint. It replaces he gear on the back of the transmission that drives the transfer case which...

series 3 rufuses to run longer than 30 secs

stale old petrol will burn just fine,,, unless its half way to being varnish. I doubt you're running e90.. that stuff effs up carbs occasionally. i'd say 7 out of the 10 or so times i've had a car that would start and not run for long.. some water had gotten in the tank.

    chassis rust

Ever try the por-15 or rust bullet? I've never had it fail.. some things have been years without failure. Painting a whole frame is a pain.. but spot treating as paint fails.. sure..

    chassis rust

I really don' get you waxoyl people.. Bought into their hype that undercoats hurt and por-15 doesn't work. Sure spreading paraffin on your chassis will protect it for a year.. who wants to do that every year. Gets everywhere.. no fun to work around. I guess no one remembers all the paraffin...

    Series 3 colour?

"white" is the easiest. Or so they say. Its all the same .. well with the rover paint anyway.. no metallics no pearls. Sure technically the black and white are painted the same.. but errors show more on the black. THe question is.. Do you spray base-clear or one stage urethane. I am going...

90 Military roll bar... Will it fit?

they sell them as 90 bars that take no drilling or series with minor drilling.

    Replacind a rad in a series 3 ??

well with the front off its a frikkin snap. With the front on.. It's a bit hard to get at the side bolts.. but only by land rover standards. .. well doable. Only thing You need remove (besides the somewhere round a dozen bolts on the radiator) are the hoses and the fan shroud tin. And the...

    Series 3 Restoration.......

yea.. the ratios in these things is pretty good.. you're a poof.. or its in need of lubrication. I have less problem turning my rover than I did my beetle. Even parked.

    Series 3 gearbox reconditioned

yea.. maybe its not warming up.. maybe you just are syncing it with RPMs after a bit of driving. My Toyota has a cable shifter.. and now that its a bit stretched.. i have similar symptom getting into reverse. But that's because its not fully engaged till the gears pull it in. Hmm..

    series 3 gear change

Replace quirky with junky. Sounds like a couple are describing worn gear boxes. No big deal if you can live with it. But if it starts vibrating, stop driving and repair before you wallow out your case or ruin your shafts.

    Series 3 gearbox reconditioned

It should be good if it went together (don't take my word for it.. thats a "so i've been told".. not experience) I have had new transmissions that took time to "wear in" but none that i would classify as hard. Is it possible your shifter sliders are frozen up? I have a reconditioned gear box...

    paint job

I'm repainting mine right now. (by the way.. picked up an HVLP turbine.. seems to be great) Sticking to the original colors. Fond of a few. But thinking pastel green screams old rover. (currently pastel green and polished aluminium silver). I've seen a bunch of bright red.. bright blue...

    aluminum shassi???

actually aluminium has been its official spelling and pronunciation for some time. Funny etymology behind that. And.. rust aluminium may not.. but it does corrode something fierce in contact with certain other metals.. such as steel. Not an Ideal chassis metal.. but it has been used.

    Points and condensor conversion ???

You can't argue against getting rid of points and condenser. Back in the day it could be argued that the points were more reliable. But the new electronic conversion kits are much more reliable than the points and condenser. If you're worried about it, keep the points in the car. I usually...

    Fairey Overdrive Oil Change

????? There's a hex on the top of the fairey overdrive, that hex has a wire attached to it. Back it out, its a dip stick. Filling till oil came out the transfer box would work but over fill the overdrive. WHich people say to do anyway.
