Get the LHD V8 and engine swap it? Or sell the RHD back home and buy a LHD over there. Costs and difficulty will make it not worthwhile. Does the car have a specific sentimental value?

Get a fuel filter, some oil and a filter and a new air filter. Give it a good service. Then drop the sedimentor and and clean it with paraffin.

I'm new to all this too, but I believe the "late type" is a modified tensioner, with a "lip" on it, as the belt used to slip off the old type. Hence the "late type" just means, new and improved?? Don't take my word as gospel please. :D

For what it's worth, I don't think it's a problem on all 200TDi's. Mine is on 167k and I think someone has left the same Idler pulley on since the 80k change done by LR. The pulley had worn away so much around the bolt that it was rocking all over the place. When the last belt was done, if...

Water pump looks OK - strangely it looks like a recent change (only had Disco 2 months). Somebody has recently changed pump and belt, but left the idler, which is more like a cam! That's what caused the belt to snap as it was rubbing against the case. :(
