3-4K will can get you something like mine around 140K miles TD4's tend to be favourite and after 2000MY (I think) the gearing ratio was changed to take stress off the VCU. I'd look at FL1's between 2004 to 2006. There is plenty of expertise in the FL section though ;)

Did you happen to notice what boots the D3 was wearing compared with Freelander? I wonder if the D3 owner knew how to use the 'Dial-a-ride' system. That all said I know my Freelander has good traction in the mud too :D

The rust is breaking what waterproof seal there was...... but while it's out, ramrod those drains at the back of the tray. The rusty glass shouldn't be an issue if the water can drain out.

The roof lining is wet as the water spills over from the catch tray due to drains being blocked. The rear drains run from the back corners and down the B pillar (I think) so you should be able to see them with the sunroof tilted up. When mine was leaking over the winter I stuck a sheet of clear...

TBH I'm not quite sure myself but I know that people have reported smoother running engine and less smoke when they changed to centrifuge or changed a cruddy mesh one. Maybe something to do with the crankcase 'breathing easier' when the filter is clean.

is the oil separator filter the BMW centrifuge type or the LR mesh? Centrifuge is the best one but if mesh, give it a good clean or change it. Either to centrifuge or another mesh. Have you put injector cleaner through the system? Does better quality fuel help in any way?

Does anyone else find that having GPS and bluetooth enabled then running NAv app, really drains the tablet battery... even connected to the vehicle? My Samsung Nexus 7 (series 1) lasts about 3 hours before I have to turn off some apps to allow it to charge up.
