Help - advice on importing a Landy to France

Sorry this may be a little late but this is the guy I found at Land Rover Paris who was very helpfull and sorted out my COC. Not free I'm afraid and as it was 6 years ago he may well not be the right guy anymore. Mick > Message Received: Jan 03 2011, 10:38 AM > From: "Boutonnet, David"...

Don't worry about fixed speed cameras – the UK never signed up to the EU cross border directive and I guess is unlikely to do so now! It works both ways though so ha-ha take that Dartford crossing toll, twice, and I was very happy explaining the law to an unbelieving traffic warden in Louth. Be...

    French driving.

Ok it's holiday time coming up so I thought it might help to share some of the things I have learnt about French driving that may help anyone coming over here to have a more pleasant holiday. This is not anything to do with highway code or law, just personal experience, having lived here for a...

    God dammit MOT fail!

Not an issue they've hit me with yet. I'll prepare for it next time though. And ignore their recommendation, obviously:)

    God dammit MOT fail!

My local CT inspectors (french MOT equivalent) have finally given up pointing out that my fog light and reversing light are on the wrong sides. They have now however started pointing out that my traction control light doesn't go out during their inspection - bless.

    Oooops forgot about that.

I once managed to drive off with the only copy of the video tape of our wedding on the roof. I did manage to recover quite a lot of it but I'll leave to your imagination the resultant conversation.

    Change of mind.

Today is a “I love my Landie” day Stupidly I managed to get my tractor stuck, sitting on it's diff on a tree stump. After trying all sorts of stuff I finally went and got the tow rope and the TD5. Problem solved. Landy 1 : Far eastern tractor 0

    Well I never!

After 10 years of ownership I was sitting in the landie in a car park when I noticed a buttony thing towards the bottom of the speedo and wondered what would happen if I pushed it. It turns out I have a trip computer!!! Who'd a thot it? Almost like a real car! Mick

Still haven't driven it having taken the wife's panda to the supermarket for the past couple of days. I'm sure I'll forgive it soon just haven't quiet got there yet. Hmmm might try the nudging the barrier thing - as revenge for the car park barrier in Rennes which decided I had passed through...

I'd happily forgive them their crap rain if they would just learn how to use roundabouts properly. Or believe in the laws of physics when it comes to stopping distances. Or if even one of them ever used their indicators!!

    fickle

Today is an “ I hate the bleedin' thing day” It's too slow and noisy and it leaks and steams up all the time so I can't see out. I have to use a squeegy on a pole to wipe the inside of the side back window when I pull out at any junction on an angle. The steering wheel is on the wrong side so...

    Buzzing fuel pump when freezing

With winter approaching here's something that may help someone. A couple of years ago whilst in the Alps in Winter when I started the TD5 in the morning the fuel pump would buzz loudly for the first couple of miles and then settle back to running normally. I was advised by Perfectland in...

    My TD5 misfire and cure

Just in case anyone else suffers the same thing here are the symptoms and the cure for what happened to me. In July 2003 TD5 misfired throughout journey home. Change in engine sound, down on power and serious vibration but it still got me 20 miles home. Checked for oil in Red plug to ECU but...

    Since owning a 90, I have...

Totally agree. The landy certainly changed, and possibly saved, my life. Before the 90 I had a series of fast cars, the last being a 911. I spent most of the time getting frustrated with the traffic holding me up, looking for overtaking oportunities, being worried about speed cameras, getting...

Moving to France with a 'fender

Will look up the number for the guy in Landrover France who deals with C of Cs for you tommorrow. Seem to remember he was a helpful chap. Not sure how the the engine conversion will affect things but put it this way, they didn't come out and inspect my defender when I re-registered it. Re...
