Larger tyres and clearance question - D1

Like the other poster says, it does depend on wheel offset. If the tyres are a sensible price I'd snap the sellers hand off. You shouldn't have to do much trimming. I've got 265/75R16 on standard alloys, I do have a 2" lift but there was very little body trimming needed. Anyway If push comes to...

The motorway police were known for dragging artics around with their Range Rover Classics too, when clearing up motorway "incidents".

    what's EGR all about

There's not really any gain in blanking it off. Unless it malfunctions, what happens is the diaphram in the valve goes weak, so the valve opens too soon. Upshot is you get excessive smoke from the exhaust. Fix is either blank it off, or just block off the control feed pipe to the valve (a...

TD5 Oil grade question again sorry.

Thinner oils do give less protection at higher temperatures. Do bear in mind too, that an oil with a wide cold/hot range is more prone to losing its grade as the oil ages. Also as the engine gets older, clearances increase and a slightly thicker oil can maintain better oil pressure. For all...

    Is my 300tdi injector leaking???

From what you describe it doesn't sound like the leak-off pipe, if that was split you'd have fuel running down from the top of the injector. It is possible that your copper seating washer isn't doing its job. The injectors can be fairly tight in the head, but they should not corrode. There is a...

    Disco SWB

It would be lots of work. Seeing as its a 3 door you'd be better to leave the wheelbase alone and bobtail/trayback it.

Urgently needed spanner size for removing cooling fan please.

Not sure abot D2 but on the D1 (and other viscous fan cars) you need a slim, cranked spanner, as a normal, straight open ender won't go on properly. So if your buying one specially, check it if needs to be a cranked one. The likes of Sykes Pickavant and Sealey make a tool specially for the job...

    Suspension Help Disco 1

Totally agree with the other posters, don't go over 2" on your suspension lift or you'll have no end of troubles. As well as propshalf issues, anything more than 2" and you'd need castor correcting front "hockey stick" arms too. Also you want to be careful with kits, all that is expensive is...

    Tyre sizes

One more thing, if your fitting a different size you'll need 5 tyres, as your spare needs to be the same size. Otherwise if you had a puncture you'd be illegal, as you can't mix tyre sizes on the same axle. Also you'd be working the diff continuously, which wouldn't do it any good.

    Discovery Sill Replacement

How much did you have to pay for your box section? Mine want doing on my 200Tdi, but so far the cost of box section is nearly as much as buying the proper sill repair sections. As for the carpet, most of the soundproofing used in cars aborbs water, its a side effect of it being good at...

So whats wrong with a couple of spacers on a lift kit then?

A friend of mine has done exactly this, he made some spacers from big aluminium bar and also modified his shocker mounts to allow the axle to drop down a bit further. The great thing is he's still on standard parts which are cheap to replace if something breaks. To be honest some extended...

    Chassis underseal.

There's a lot to be said for an old fashioned oil spray every 12 months, I've got a 1972 Rover P6 which has clearly had that done many times, and although its a bit grimy underneath, its true to say the car is 100% rot free. Opinions abound regarding wax, and its hard to sort the wheat from the...

    gear selection 200tdi

Hi from what I remember you can adjust the tension on that little plunger thing, its a few years ago now, but I seem to recall there was something you screwed up to tighten it, I might have had to dismantle it. It wasn't rocket science, either way. If the gearlever is floppy across the forward...

    SRS light

That sounds very similar to a problem my car had (2001). SRS light was on most of the time. In the service history there's a testbook print out which said there was "passenger airbag module fault". Anyway it was intermittent so in the end I whacked the passenger airbag module with my fist, and...

Hi first of all I'm sorry to "jump in", but I'm struggling with this blink test too. I've found the procedure, but I can't seem to locate the ABS lamp relay. On the left hand side underdash there are three relays, 2 yellow base, 1 black none of the wire colours seem to tie in with any of the...
