    New number plate rules

TBH thats exactly what I thought ;). Its not like I'm a stranger to him either. I wondered perhaps if they'd had the inspectorate sniffing round lately, making sure they were sticking to "ze rules" correctly.

    Landy fuel price protest?

My neighbour helped organise the truckers M6 fuel protest a year or two ago. He discussed it all with police and had no trouble getting them onboard. They did lay down a few rules for him to comply with, but basically a splendid time was had by all, including the police officers themselves...

How often do you get a puncture?

I tend to think of a puncture as something which could be repaired eg a nail through the tread. When offroad there's more chance of writing off the tyre really, ie make a hole in a sidewall.

    New number plate rules

It was a fair cop, (not getting into whether the rules are fair ... ;)) I rang VOSA, any number plate even if its pre 2001 vehicle must be 79mm. The only difference is post 2001 plate is allowed narrower letters (50mm), whereas prior to that your allowed 64mm character width. And its the date...

The Big Debate - Britpart or S**tpart?

I'd only use them for non-critical stuff too. I don't think I'd use them for filters/timing belts etc. No problem with using them for body panels, repair sections etc. Stuff like wheel bearings are so cheap for a pukka Timken/SKF item that it seems hardly worth risking Britparts Chinese copies...

    New number plate rules

Disco 300 failed MOT on rear number plate a few days ago, digits not tall enough on the rear plate (new rule is 79mm). Car passed OK last year but apparently law changed earlier this year. Only bikes and certain imports are allowed to have smaller (65mm). So, off I trot and get a new plate...

    £1500 for 6bhp anyone??

I think the kit has more to do with improving low end torque than all-out power. It claims 224 lbf ft @ 1400rpm, as opposed to 195 lbf ft @ 1800rpm. That would be a massive improvement, for towing, well into Td5 territory. Because of their limited revs, power figures can be misleading on...

    Radio code help

I had one lock up through entering the wrong code too many times, you've only got so many bites at the cherry. Had to get it decoded in the end. Also, depending who has decoded it, you sometimes only get one attempt. ie one wrong code locks the radio immediately. There is a way of making them...

    Tyre Advice

Could be a bit iffy. A few years ago I had some which had been flat for ages, and after a few hundred miles I noticed cracks appearing under the tread, where it had been flat. Scary!

    Boost?

Are you not thinking of flow rate losses? these will be dependent on pipe diameter. However the pressure will be the same in them all, since after all they are physically connected together. So long as the pipes are big enough to allow sufficient flow to move the diaphrams then all is well...

    Boost?

If its a 200Tdi they only boost to around 0.7Bar, 300Tdi is a bit more, forget how much offhand. The reading at the pump boost diaphram should be the same as the manifold pressure, after all its what the pump uses to control the injection fuelling.

    Disco 200tdi Exhaust Clamp

Pipe is 70mm diameter, its actually a special clamp fitted at the factory, but you could use a 70mm universal clamp if you position it carefully.

    TD5 running lumpy???

Mine had the exact same symptoms and it was the injector harness full of oil. I got one from local indy for 30'odd quid. Paddock sell 'em too. You need to clean the oil out of the ECU red plug too. Also I found the oil had found its way into the AFM plug so I cleaned that out too. I just used...

HELP Is it my Clutch OR gearbox

When I made enquires, I was told the main thing you'd notice is the car won't be as smooth at very low revs. That is, if you slow down to like 1000-1200 revs in 4th gear, then try and pull away it will judder. However that sort of thing *is* rather bad driving ;) However I've not tried fitting...

    Mullered rear wheel bearings

Has the car been used offoad much? I've had bearings apparently fail suddenly on my 200Tdi, but when I've stripped the hub I've always found the bearing was running dry, so had been holding out until all of a sudden it could take no more. Going in water is the killer, it gets in the bearing and...

HELP Is it my Clutch OR gearbox

Don't know what anyone else thinks, but If your going to be hammering the car off-road it might be worth considering a single mass flywheel. The dual mass ones don't seem to take much breaking, even when used "normally" ;-)

    2" Lift kit enquiry

You could try putting spacer blocks under your springs, quite a few people have done that. If you want you can fit extended shockaborbers but you then have to be careful the springs don't pop out on full rebound. If you fit extended shocks then really you need to fit longer brake hoses too.

Disco 1 300 tdi auto vs man.

If your towing any weight an auto would feel more gutless when pulling away or going up hills. In such situations you also run the risk of fluid overheating problems, especially on an older car. A manual transmission would be far more reliable and give better performance and economy.

    So Sluggish!

Our 300Tdi's lack of power was caused by the rear sediment bowl full of gunge. Cleaned that up and it was like driving a different car.
