    Chemical Rust Dip

Molasses sounds like a stupid idea, what a mess that would create. I second phosphoric acid (use about 25% of pure) and add some wetting agent. IMO it is still the best rust dissolver and steel passivator available. After rinsing off you can paint the surface with no further treatment.

Spoke to a manager at Land Rover service dept.....

Re: EV's How are people living in terraced houses with no drives or in blocks of flats, going to charge their cars? One not so bright suggestion was to fit street lamp-posts with charging points, but of course there was no estimate of the cost of vastly increasing the power capacity of the...

    Discovery 2 td5 2002 egr advice

If I refit my EGR valve, what is the best method to disable the function to prevent exhaust gas from entering the inlet manifold?
  4. V

With regards to the New MOT 2018 rules I sent a Letter to my MP

Regarding EGR if you have retained the acoustic cover on your TD5 engine then that will conceal the front of the inlet manifold and the tester will not be able to see if the EGR valve has been removed. They are not allowed to disturb engine covers or undertrays. It also helps if you have left...

Help! Slow TD5 Camshaft Issues ?

    1. New injector washers and O rings 2. Camshaft and injector cam followers 3. Cylinder head and associated gaskets 4. Rotor oil filter 5. New, cleaned or repaired cylinder head? Sounds like a good deal for £1200 with the turbo, depending on the identity of the cylinder head

    Wing mirror arm loose ??

Aftermarket ones are generally poor. They don't have the same mechanism as original LR ones. I had to put extended arms on for caravan towing and got them from Paddocks. They're just about OK but do tend to move up and down with wind gusts and HGV air movement on the motorway. I think they...

    Off on another adventure

Explored Riccarton junction around 30 years ago. Have walked the Waverley track bed from Newcastleton to Hawick including through Whitrope tunnel and over Shankend viaduct. The viaduct is Grade 2 listed and has received significant maintenance over the years. In 2007 the deck was...

    Buying used disco

IMO biggest problem is the chassis, esp. rear section. For some reason they were made of thinner gauge steel than D1 and although the bodywork was well protected they were still rolled off the production line with no protection on the chassis.

two alternator fails in one week

This is an extract from near the beginning of QXComponents technical data booklet: "Great your customer has bought an alternator They can fit it and forget it, not quite true, 85% of all alternators fitted to cars with a discharged / flat battery will fail within 30 minutes. He must make sure...

two alternator fails in one week

I believe it has to do with current/voltage regulator being overloaded when attempting to quickly restore a poorly charged battery. Apparently alternators are not specifically designed as battery chargers and simply provide a steady current/voltage required by the vehicle's electrical load...

two alternator fails in one week

Just recently fitted a new alternator to my V8. On the outside of the box there was warning that the battery must be fully charged before fitting the alternator. On the supplier's website it repeats this warning stating that failure of a new alternator mainly occurs due to not charging the...

    This looks a bit fishy....

You can report items to ebay, the link is on the listing. I doubt the police would take any notice unless you have proof items are stolen.

How can I check whether my TD5 head is cracked?

Diesel will not separate from the oil. They are fully miscible with each other. Other than analysis, then thinning, smell or rising levels are the only indicators.

    Vehicle Tracking: A Beginners Guide

The problem with all of these cheap ones is that you need to find the vehicle yourself and possibly be confronted with a bunch of feral scrotes. IMO it is better to pay the extra for a monitored service that liases with the police when vehicle is stolen.

    Leisure Batterys

I just buy fairly cheap dual purpose ones for the caravan, but use a Ctek smart charger to maintain them. The Ctek also has a setting for AGM batteries. Probably the smartest charger in the world.

    Diesel scrappage scheme

It will only be really old worthless cars and vans that are scrapped and not that many because you have to buy a new vehicle to get the benefit. On the other hand the older engines will run fine on straight vegetable oil which is untaxed up to 2500 l/annum. I have read that hydrogen injection...
