    Replacement TD5 please

I seem to remember that the crank position sensor is in a different location on the bellhousing, but if you are only changing the engine you won't need to worry about that.

    New MOT regs?

It is legal to drive a vehicle without a current MOT to a pre-booked appointment and drive it home after the test even if it has failed.

    New MOT regs?

Going to replace my EGR for the next MOT and cut a thin blanking plate to fit over the exhaust connection and/or disconnect the vacuum pipes from the valve body,

    TD5 Injector Seal Replacement

That is some mucky engine in the autoexpress video - clearly no regular oil changes or centrifugal filter not working.

RR Classic Hybrid - Fueling/carb help!

The needle is attached to the bottom of the piston with a screw, so lifts out of the jet when you remove the piston. Check the needles are straight and reattach if necessary. Later models have a spring biased mount that eliminates the requirement to centre the jet.

RR Classic Hybrid - Fueling/carb help!

This link gives a simple description of a Stromberg carb with good diagrams. Unlike the SU carbs, the Stromberg uses a rubber diaphragm at the top of the piston (illustrated in the link) that is prone to perishing and failure. This could be another cause of the symptoms. 6mm sounds correct...

RR Classic Hybrid - Fueling/carb help!

To check the jet needles just remove the top of the carb. The needles should lift out with the piston if still attached. All v8 carb setups I've seen have a fuel return pipe that tees of the second carb and is a smaller diameter then the feed pipe. It helps to eliminate overpressure and...

    TD5 burned fuel pump relay

It's obvious - burned out. Could be a loose connection on that contact. For the relay, just search ebay for Ford (or Land Rover) yellow relay and you'll find some with the same part no.

RR Classic Hybrid - Fueling/carb help!

I had similar on a 3.5 V8 with SU HIF carbs. It turned out one of the jet needles had dropped out of its mount, so only running on 4 cylinders. I would check the needles first. What pressure is the new pump meant to deliver?

    td5 discovery

Bodywork is usually very good, chassis is prone to serious corrosion particularly at rear. Thinner gauge steel was used to manufacture the chassis to keep the weight down, than on the previous model and thinner than defenders of the same vintage. I really like the last fully loaded ones made...

Lost power suddenly, now will not even start TD5

When you fit your new pump start putting mineral 2-stroke oil in the tank when you fill up. About 500 ml per full tank and about 300 ml for a top up. Modern low sulfur diesel doesn't have the lubricating properties of older fuels and the 2 stroke adds this back for the pump and the rest of the...

What to Buy Freelander 2 orRange Rover Evoque

Just my opinion, but I hate the lowered roofline at the rear of the evoque. The FL2 is much better proportioned and looks like a Land Rover.

    Mould in coolant channels!?

If there was only water in the system, the cylinder head will have corroded to some extent. What colour was the mould?

    TD5 MPG

Defender 90 TD5 SW. Last fill up took almost exactly 10 gallons till the pump cut out and again after squeezing some more in. Trip was reading 330 miles since last fill up from same pump - so 33 mpg. The only mods are EGR delete and centre exhaust box removed. The cat is still present...

    Battery Charger Technical Stuff

I second the Ctek chargers, have resurrected several "dead" batteries with mine. A properly designed charger should never cause the battery to release significant hydrogen. The Ctek has a recondition mode that will briefly raise the voltage to release hydrogen and promote mixing of the...

    No mot

You can still have your car MOT'd as normal. Classic Car weekly have just reported that exempt cars will be covered by the previous MOT certificate layout if presented for a voluntary inspection, so should avoid advisory items like seat belt webbing slightly frayed or surface corrosion on road...

    Modifications insurance

So long as "cosmetic" doesn't include bloody bullbars? Are these still legal as I recently saw a newish VW Touareg, fitted with them and was rather surprised.
