    Removing engine

I guess it'll just be engine only then. It's a manual with the R380? box. Zen, it requires new cylinder liners. Exhaust won't be a problem, thats been apart and together a couple of times in my short period of ownership, having replaced the gaskets, then taking heads off and replacing head...

    Removing engine

Sorry it's my Disco 1. I did think whether pulling out just the engine would be easier for now, though while it is out I'm going to have a look at the transmission as it'll be easier.

    Removing engine

Ok, so I've accepted that the block is knackered, although no liner slip is evident, water is getting in somewhere, after renewing head gaskets and getting heads checked. This week I shall get the engine out, strip it down and get it relinered. Is there anything to look out for when removing...

    14cux chip???

You'd be better off getting a megasquirt and some dyno time. I know it costs money for those, but like zen said, the eprom map will not be the same, and I think you'd end up disappointed

    ARP head studs

Is it not just the normal torque to a figure, then tighten 90 degress then a further 90 degrees? Or something similar. I would say using threadlock on head bolts is a definite no no.

    Computer controlled

Not sure what's been done before, but these guys do a combined screen and controller plus comms modules Unitronics - PLC - HMI Not affiliated with them, just do industrial control systems for food. Schneider did an IP67 rated unit once, though knowing Schneider I doubt it's cheap. Click on...

    Cold Heater

What engine? I never had steam in my V8 exhaust to start with, but was getting bubbles in the rad and the heater would start warm ish, then go cold as an airlock was created. Once I took the the rocker covers off it was evident with plenty of mayonnaise, even though no evidence was visible on...

    Dash Switches

    Breaking ES disco 3.9 V8

Do you still have the rear wiper motor?

    It's a miracle!

Cool, mine was a 1973, one of the last chrome bumpers. Took it right back to a bare shell, before rebuilding it, including the engine. Unfortunately, despite it being a miracle that it got back together and turned over, am now stuck with the dilema of what to do, as it still has white mist...

    It's a miracle!

Nope no pics sorry, was too engrossed in getting it back together. It was a nervous 20 seconds or so waiting for the petrol to reach the injectors, but it was ace hearing it start. The last time I did this was rebuilding my mgb gt, 20 years ago. Wish that had been a V8.

    It's a miracle!

Well today I finally got finished with putting my refurbished heads back on and getting it all back together. It wasn't without drama, had a head bolt go yesterday evening when doing it up. It was number 18 of the 20, so it's not like it was my first go. Off came the head again, new gasket...

    Heaters not working.

If the matrix gets warm then goes cold, it could indicate pressure in the cooling system from a head gasket failure, stopping fluid circulating properly. Not sure about the blowers though sorry, knackered motor or selector switch? If someone has had the dash out did they reconnect everything...

New ECU and now getting 135 MPH

Maybe this wonderful new ECU is calibrated for kmh not mph :D

    location of strobe timming marks

I've read in some forums of people running as much as 16 btdc, depends on how you use the car. Think 6 btdc is a common setting for a petrol only engine

    location of strobe timming marks

I presume you mean 800rpm tickover :D I run mine on quite a bit of advance as I always use LPG, except to get the car started. LPG burns slower so needs more time to combust before the expansion stroke starts hence more advance. Every engine is different though and it's a case of finding...

    cruise control relay location

Have you seen this guide in the How To section? http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f68/disco-1-cruise-control-repair-231884.html Haven't been through mine yet but it seems fairly easy to follow and it highlights wire colours that go to the cruise unit.

    location of strobe timming marks

On the crank pulley there is a deep notch and the marks are to the left of that if you are looking down on the pulley from the top. So as the crank turns clockwise, you should see the notch then the marks, and also text saying 'before' and 'after'.

    V8 using water

I've ordered the gaskets etc, and my local factors deal with Reinz so I'm glad you've said that :) Found someone to skim the heads too, down in Winchester so dropping them off in the morning. Fingers crossed this solves the problem when I rebuild. Need a few LPG associated bits as well as...

    V8 using water

Ok, I have had a proper look again this morning in the light and what I though were inlet ports are actually the waterway ports  In my defence I had driven to Aberdeen and back(1150 mile round trip) as well as working for 13 or 14 hours, all within the space of 48 hours :o Anyway I have...
