    Seeking new V8

Zen, the problem is finding a half decent one. There are ones listed on eBay saying new head gasket required and they still want £500+. My concern is buying a Rover V8 and having the same problems again. Power isn't the primary factor, just want something that will work and be reliable, on...

    Seeking new V8

Ok, thanks again. I'll sleep on it and decide on the morning.

    Seeking new V8

Tbh I'd go for the steel option, I could CAD up the part and get it made locally. Is the rover spline and stuff the same? I'm sorry for the questions but I've not done this before as you might guess, and thanks again for the advice and help. I did do a bare metal rebuild of my mgb gt when...

    Seeking new V8

Cool, thanks for the link. Definitely interested. I just need to do a bit of research about the cost of the bellhousing adaptor, and exhaust headers tomorrow. Had a look at Real Steel and the consumables look reasonable.

    Seeking new V8

Ok and I think last thing lol Is it a complete engine with all ancillaries such as flywheel, starter etc?

    Seeking new V8

Are we talking full rebuild with bearings etc. or is it just the head gaskets? What sort of modding would it need? Would it work with the standard R380 manual box? Apologies for all the questions. But thanks for your help so far :)

    Seeking new V8

What capacity, and crucially, roughly how much? Would it be a relatively straightforward fit?

    Seeking new V8

Power isn't really the prime motivation, but I'd never say no to more. Just want to find a good engine in my price range, and I could have convinced myself your 350 was worth it.

    Seeking new V8

To be honest I'd only decided this week to replace rather than rebuild. I was going to top hat my engine as I am a bit reluctant about buying another engine. But I think it's the best way forward, and I can get an upgrade at the same time :) I'll have a look on eBay for those, I've only...

    Seeking new V8

Ffs, my timing sucks. I would have had that. Stroking always tend to give a few more inches, so I'm told ;P

    Seeking new V8

Ah bugger, what money did it go for? There's no substitute for inches(cubic) apparently :D

    Seeking new V8

Ruari, Is this the one you've got listed somewhere else? Dr Evil, who the hell wouldn't want a 7.4l V8 but it would need to take lpg as well and be good for doing lots of miles. I'd done 6000 before it failed, in just over 2 months. Whatever I get I think megasquirt is going to be the best...

    Seeking new V8

Apologies for posting here, but I can't post in the wanted section and thought this might get a bigger audience. I'm looking for a good GEMS 4.6 V8 to replace my knackered engine. I know there a few on eBay, but am sceptical about the quality of some of them. Would rather buy from someone...

My Adrian Flux/ULR insurance claim woes!

Very glad I didn't go with Flux, poor service, and no excuse for it :(

    Removing engine

Of course I can't post in the wanted section as I don't have enough posts. I know there are a couple on eBay but always feel a bit uncomfortable when I see sellers with neg feedback. I know there are always two sides to a story, but I can't afford to throw away money.

    Removing engine

Thanks for all the advice zen, just need to find an engine now.
  17. J

    Removing engine

So at a minimum I would need: 4.6 V8 Engine, and hope it's a good one, with loom GEMS ECU New clutch(might as well while it's out) MS ECU as a possible option, with wideband sensor. Then engine out/engine in fit ECU and should be up and running.

    Removing engine

So would I need to change the rail pressure, or fit a different fuel pump as well? The attractive option at the moment would just to get a 4.6 and fit the GEMS ECU. Is it just a case of matching up cores on the loom to the GEMS plug, for the injectors/sensors etc.? What about water? Is the...

    Removing engine

Ok so a search on eBay today has revealed a couple of 4.6 options, but is it really worth the hassle? I assume that I would need to swap out my 14CUX ECU for the correct GEMS one etc. Or of course I could go down the Megasquirt route but then we are getting up to the same amount of money as it...

    Removing engine

Yes they will be top hat liners. Where have you seen those 4.6 engines zen, I had a quick look on eBay all seemed to be 3.9 or 4.0 engines for sale Oh and I run lpg too. The engine needs to be reliable as I do a fair few miles with work, don't want to be going through this again in a few months.
