    engine rebuild

I can understand your logic about having a spare engine, but if yours has been maintained then 250-300,000miles/km are not unheard of, even my old Mondeo had 260.000 on when I scrapped it, it was the rust that got to it, the engine was the best part fitted. I would also agree that any money...

Should i buy a freelander ??? help please

Being the owner of both the TD and TD4 for a number of years now, they still can produce a smile when you drive them. Both of them are used on a daily basis, journeys to work and back. The V plate TD was the first, about 4 years old when we got it and have been well impressed from day 1, the...

Freelander Abs light on ! opinions please

The TC light does not go off until the speedo reads 5 MPH (? ish) so if you cure the speedo you should cure the TC light, maybe the 3 amigos as well.

My First Own Car .. Now What To Do ?

My first car was a Hillman Imp as well, many happy hours spent rebuilding engine, floors, sills, all typical of 60s built cars, as was my next one, for a short time, a Mk1 Midget( wish I still had that one), 850 out 1100 in, followed by a 1966 Mini, also with new floors and sills, wide tyres on...

    Tools

I got one of their toolkits a couple of years ago, not bad bit of kit, especially the 'locking on' ratchets. My only complaint is that I find the sockets very shallow compared with my (very) old set, however that do seem to work OK and nothing has broken so far.

    engine management light

With what I know now, the first thing I would do is change the harness to the rail pressure sensor, at about £30 to buy and an easy half an hour to fit, it is the cheapest item to try first. If it is not the problem then you are not to much out of pocket, it did cure multiple warning light...

Do you have any of the following?

Ok, I will add an L series, and a TD4, both 3 door with removeable roof, but intrigued by the question

    gaylander sat nav update

Lots of TomTom's have lifelong map update deals at the moment, just got a Start 60, 6 inch screen for £130 with life long map updates and traffic info for 1 year, but what they dont tell you is that you need a different charging lead, with the required ariel in it, only £50 more !!!!!!!

    Overrun/running on

Has the harness from fuel pressure sensor to ecu been replaced, could be the cause of the faults.

    Auction price advice

The road tax on an auto is eye watering as well

    L series vs Td4 driveability

We have one of each. Initially when we got the 'L' series we were impressed with the handling, performance and reliability, especially when towing, sitting at 60 mph with a caravan is a doddle compared with the previous Mondeo TD. Over the 8 or so years we have had it, the only time it let us...

I somehow think that the chuffing great tractor is doing 99% of the work, now if it gave a sharp tug and had them rolling around in the mud .............?

A couple of years ago I bought some stuff from Island 4X4 (vcu and rear diff)and they are both still fitted and working.

    SNOW what to expect ??

Here in sunny Norfolk we have had a fair lump of snow at times during the last two winters, up to six inches at times, some of which lasted for a week or two, not long for some I know, but for us that was unusual. Our Freelanders have ordinary road tyres fitted and neither had any problems on...

    VCU Bearing Alignment (with photos)

When I fitted new bearings and VCU, I let the bearngs sit in there natural position and tightened them up, even though the feet where not square. The idea being that if I had to force the feet 'square' then the bearing was being loaded and would not have lasted too long.

    Break down

'one of the push rods had broke' Push rods for what ?? cant have been valves as its overhead cam - or do they mean con rod, which sounds more likely.

    Black MK61 *** on M60

Added to my list of pet hates of lane hoggers(especially when towing caravan) is the drivers who do not blend into traffic when a lane is closed, but carry on until the lane is actually coned off and then try and push in at the last moment causing more tailback than was there already. I love it...

Engine / Engine management light problems

I think you will find that the TD4 of that vintage only has the pump under the drivers side rear wheel arch, same as my 55 plate TD4.

    Bonnet Pod problems

You must be desperate to fit that to your Freeby, the quality is terrible for the price you paid. I think the standard lights are pretty good, so why put even more drag to the body shape.
