Td5: rear suspension acting up (and down)

Checked out the height sensors today as far as I could - checked all linkages were free and electrical connectors in good condition . Put all back - after about a mile or so light came on and suspension went down . Would one faulty height sensor cause both sides to go down together ? When I...

Td5: rear suspension acting up (and down)

Thanks david - the bogus information makes sense as they go down at random ; but going down too often now , sometimes after half a mile or so . Will have a good look at ride height sensors - have had no problem with the air suspension since I got the Disco so maybe could hold on to the air.

Td5: rear suspension acting up (and down)

Have a 2001 Td5 with 206 K on the clock. Drove to Galway this morning ( approx 20 mls @ -4/5 C ) - no problems until end of journey when I thought I had a flat . Turned out the rear suspension had gone down on both sides - (yellow light illuminated on dash ) . Parked it for a while - started up...

    Disco 1 speedometer

That was how the problem started - would jump around for a bit and then work OK for a few days . Changed the transducer and all OK since . Would have a look at the transducer first - accessible from under the vehicle .

    leaking disco

When you drop the headlining you will see the drain pipes - 2 for each sunroof , one at each front corner . Having read a lot of posts re leaking sunroofs apparently these are rarely blocked - but it can happen . Or maybe one of them can get pinched between roof and headlining . The boxes the...

    300 TDi speedo

Had that problem on a 96 Tdi recently . The transducer (think its the same part for auto and manual ) on the gearbox was worn . Changed it - all fine again . Easy enough to change .

    Perfect Disco 11 but?

I have a 2001 7 seater and I would imagine that to do the job properly you would need most of the interior trim from the the two rear doors back to allow for seat belt linkages /mountings ; there are slots in the headlining for the headrestraints ; there are slots in the carpet for the seats to...

MOT Fail on steering box advice needed.

When my 300 Tdi developed a leak from the steering box the parts man in the local main dlr advised against a seal kit - he said they never last long . Fitted a recon unit from Paddocks . IF the Td5 box has a drop link like the 300 Tdi I would also advise getting the box with drop link attached -...

    Rear windows not working

When a family member bought a 98 300 Tdi the rear windows didnt work - assumed switch was the problem but that was OK . I then discovered that someone had disconnected the plug from the rear window harness under the center console - maybe they just wanted to be doubly sure that a child couldn't...

    advice needed

I had a leaking steering box and when I ran out of PS fluid I was amazed at the effort it took to turn the steering - can't imagine how you could manage without power assistance .

    leaking sunroof

I have a 2001 Td5 - last June I had it parked facing downhill on a fairly steep incline and the rear sunroof soaked the rear seat and carpet . After that I was careful not to park facing downhill and haven't had a leak since . At the time I read a lot of artcles on leaking Discovery sunroofs and...

    heavy duty clutch fork?

I was going to say I had changed 2 over the past few years - both had failed around the 100K mark . I just put in a new standard fork as I felt that another 100K would be quite acceptable -and I wasn't sure what effect welding would have on the new fork . They are both still going fine after...

    vibration

When you say vibration I take it you can feel it through the body of the Disco - rather than just through the steering if wheels are out of balance . IF the vibration is felt throughout the vehicle then : check rubber doughnut for splits or other signs of failure and check all the UJ's - I note...

    TD5 goin nowhere!

A friend of mine in the trade had a Td5 parked up for 2 months over Christmas and when he went to start with a charged battery it started and ran BUT then the fun started : (a) while left running the starter engaged all by itself (b) when he opened the drivers door all the ignition lights came...

    300tdi - serpentine belt

Agree with andy - take off the belt , spin tensioner/alternator/water pump . You will have a good idea from this and it costs nothing . If tensioner is the problem source a bearing off ebay for a few euro/£. I think its often the rear bearing on the alternator that fails - the heat dries it...

    discovery spider problems

You can buy a small harness from your Land Rover dealer - can't think of part no now but it only costs about €10 here in Ireland . You remove the wires from the spider and plug them into the harness - no soldering or anything like that .

Td5 fusebox - can they be 'swopped'

A friend has a year 2000 Td5 and it appears the fusebox has a big problem due to dampness ( Disco parked up for 2 months ). He has located a SH fusebox but would like to know if : (a) the fusebox has to be programmed in to the Disco in some way and if so is it a main dlr job -he has a Launch...

    spigot bush

I changed my clutch in 2001 Td5 last year and changed the spigot bush also - it's an interference fit in the end of the crankshaft . My old one was breaking up . I found the new one was a loose fit so I fitted it using Stud and Bearing fit . The bush is easily damaged so take it easy when fitting .

    300 Tdi speedo problems

On that year I think the speedo is 'driven' by a transducer on the transfer box . The transducer fits where the cable used to be on the older models and sends a signal to the speedo head in the dash . Changed one on my brothers 96 300 Tdi recently as the speedo had become very erratic. I found...
