    alarm/ starting problem

Came across that problem last year with a 96 D1 - my brothers 8 month old son got a few 'rude awakenings' due to the same kind of fault . Do you have a second fob - in this case the second fob worked . When the problem reoccurred and neither fob would work we opened up one fob and found a...

    steering box

Had that problem 3 yrs ago on a 96 Disco and Ifitted a recon box from Paddocks and no problem since . At the time I asked the local main dlr about a seal set and the storeman advised me not to bother - at best he said it would be a short term fix . If you are getting a reconditioned box it might...

    Advice on air suspension

I have an 01 Td5 with rear air suspension as it's 7 str - as said above all 7 strs had air . Mine had a habit of going down on one side from time to time - last night I changed the air bag ( had it for 2 months ) and all's fine since . And it only cost €100 - main dlr wanted €280 ...

phone kit fitted - now problems .

My brother had a phone kit fitted to his 96 Tdi ES yesterday and afterwards the SRS light stayed on , the ABS light wouldn't come on at all , fuel gauge stuck at 3/4 full and dash lights failed to come on . Today the company called back the guy who installed the kit - dash lights are back ...

removing viscous fan from Td5 - which way ?

Success - got the fan off tonight . Gave it a few taps with a cold chisel and then put on the adjustable and hit it a few times with a hammer and it loosened - thankfully . I just couldn't go any further until I got the fan off . Of course it helped that thanks to battenberg I was turning it...

removing viscous fan from Td5 - which way ?

removing viscous fan from Td5 - which way ?

I'm changing the radiator in my 01 Td5 but can't get the viscous fan off . I presumed it is the same as the 300Tdi - as you look at the engine from the front you turn the nut clockwise to loosen it . I've had no luck so far using an adjustable spanner which works fine with one of the pulley...

remove the centre consul - help

According to Rave the selector lever is on a plate which is attached to the transmission by 3 bolts - 1 at the front and 2 at the back . When these are removed you can then lift off the selector / plate .

What do you get on a full tank ??

I had a 300 Tdi - completely standard - and for a while I had my own diesel tank and used to fill it to the brim each time . From full to the light coming on ranged from 590 to 607 mls and this continued over a period of a few months . This was mainly driving on country roads - 40 to 55 mph ...

    TD% 7ES with a stuck 7th Seat

I had that problem with my 2001 and finally got it solved - but it's hard to explain . First make sure the slot in the boot floor taht the seat locks into is clear of all debris as the locking mechanism is very fussy about being fully in place . The seat has to be firmly locked down before the...

    Drop Arm removal tips?

2 years ago I changed the steering box in my 300 Tdi and had to remove the drop arm to fit to the recon box . I was using a 10 ton hydraulic puller with the box on the bench and getting nowhere . Having soaked it with penetrating oil I tightened the puller to the max and left it on the bench...

    Red or Blue Coolant???

I was acknowledging in my post that keeping the system pressure up was even more important if going to higher elevations due to the reduction in atmospheric pressure as you climb. The idea of leaving the cap slightly loose was only a suggestion that could help reduce the amount of coolant loss...

    Red or Blue Coolant???

I know that upping the pressure increases the boiling point and maybe this would be even more important if going to higher elevations as atmospheric pressure decreases the higher you go . I'm fairly new to Td5's but up to this I 've had 300Tdi's and 2 years ago I advised my brother to remove the...

    "what have i done"

I had that problem with my sister's 300 Tdi and it turned out to be the handbrake was overtightened - slackened it off a bit and problem disappeared . Don't know it only happened at low speeds , but it felt pretty nasty at the time .

    disco 2 on a 2 post lift - risky ?

I had a 300 Tdi before the D2 and did a lot of work on it using the 2 poster . However when I put up the D2 there were a few things I felt unhappy about : * due to the attachments to the chassis rail the front pads of the lift were in line with the join between front door and wing - thus leaving...

    Red or Blue Coolant???

I have an 01 Td5 with 170K on the clock and it loses about half litre or so of coolant fairly regularly . Took some searching but tracked it to the top nearside corner of the main rad - because of its location it was hard to spot . Bought a new rad last Nov but still haven't fitted it -...

    Td5 - petrol in diesel - trouble ?

As I said the forum had alerted me to the problem of vapourisation but even so I was surprised how quickly it became noticeable when starting - on a few occasions after only about 2/3 mls. And I was driving very gently due to the circumstances. The starting was as good as ever when cold but once...

    Td5 - petrol in diesel - trouble ?

Thanks for prompt replies - really like the Td5 but didn't want to do any expensive damage . Treworgey 90 , do you mean ordinary engine oil such as Duckhams Semi synthetic which I use for the engine . I also have some Millers fuel additive - would this help ?
