It could be the servotronic valve, this valve regulates how light/heavy the steering is at whatever speed the vehicle is travelling at. Very easy to change, take the off side wheel off and its there in front of you , undo two bolts and replace, cost of valve around £60

There's nothing on the list that couldn't be easily sorted out with a few afternoons work. Most likely the corrosion will be surface and if caught now will only require a clean up and some protection reapplied.
