    Steering wheel rubbing on shroud

Hi, thanks for the great advice. Yes, I tightened the lower screws on the upper shroud first, followed by the steering wheel end which could have distorted the top shroud towards the steering wheel. I'll start again as you advise. It seems to me impossible to get the top shroud on with the...

    Steering wheel rubbing on shroud

Hi Defender 90, 1986. Just fitted a new instrument panel and put on the shroud around the steering column Is there a best order to put the screws in underneath the shroud. When I put the shroud together it is very tight against the dash and rubs on the steering wheel. Also, the instrument...

    What the hell? wiring

So is it only po So is it only possible to have the instrument lights on at the same time as the internal light. Or would there normally be another switch on the internal light, or is it supposed to just run from the door post switches (which I haven't got!). Sorry to ask, but the original...

    What the hell? wiring

Thanks for confirming. Clearly been hacked about then. I've got the switch but it's unplugged and the wire chopped for the internal light. The wires for the instrument light have been rerouted to run off something else - obviously a permanent live - not quite sure where that's coming from...

    What the hell? wiring

Thanks all. It looked like such a hacked about hole that I thought it was mostly the work of the PO. But good to know it's alot of the original wiring (albeit I don't have a rear wiper or rear demister). I've got the casing for the radio but don't have the domed plastic cover, I don't think...

    What the hell? wiring

Hi Just doing some work on the dash on my Defender 90 - 1986 - instrument panel, tidying up etc. There's an outcrop of wiring emerging from the centre of the dash (pic attached) - hole cut through at the back. Some of it probably for the radio which has been taken out. Any thoughts on the...

Green bulb holder lenses - instrument panel

Nice plan! I'll hunt around for something similar diameter or raid the family felt-tip store. What glue did you use and which LED's did you use? There's a massive choice out there it seems....

Green bulb holder lenses - instrument panel

Hi all In the process of overhauling the instrument panel which was all bust up. Defender 1987. The backs of all the instruments are missing the part that the bulb inserts into - just a hole - except the fuel gauge still has part of the green lense stuck inside. The wired bulb holders that...

    Power Steering Fluid - Defender

Hi What's the best, most available, power steering fluid to use on a 1987 Defender - 200Tdi Discovery conversion? Thanks

    Defender instrument removal

Hi All Can anyone tell me whether it's possible / how to remove the individual instruments (speedo etc) from the instrument panel. I want to put the instruments in a new panel as the original one was mashed by PO. Thanks

    Defender 90 - 1987 - leaky sunroof

:) I might be on that road if I can't get it to stop leaking! Then buy a headlining kit without the sunroof opening...

    Defender 90 - 1987 - leaky sunroof

Yes. Certainly worth a try. It's missing the headlining in the front and I'm conscious that, if I buy one with a sunroof opening, it may not fit.

    Defender 90 - 1987 - leaky sunroof

Hi all Just taken ownership of a Defender 90 200TDI - 1987. It looks as if it may have a non-Landrover sunroof fitted (was a sunroof ever even factory fitted into the early Defenders?).....and I've discovered it leaks like a bar steward. The latch (which is a clamp type, not a wheel) is also...

    Paintwork

Thanks for the replies. All really useful. I can see the appeal and advantages in getting the galv chassis and bulkhead if possible. I've seen an LR near me that has a galvanised bulkhead but I've noticed that the bare galv has still got some rust on it round the windscreen hinges. So...

    Paintwork

That's really clear, thank you! Are any parts of the door cills steel? I noticed there was some rust up behind a galvanised / stainless (possibly after market) checker plate below the door. Since posting this, I've been put off this particular 90 by a local mechanic friend. He's steering...
