Freelander 2 (LR2) Scrabbling after diff bearing change

You know you can send away the Haldex ecm and have the ‘scrabble’ mod done, right? (Assuming gen4) Mine was scrabbling, had the mod, perfect now.

Freelander 1 All bolts etc Metric?

Amongst other things, a good set of 6-sided metric sockets and spanners is a must !

    Some diagnosis needed

I’m officially jealous! Well done you.

And pictures! A freelander on a road trip like that… we want pictures!

    Some diagnosis needed

So the working assumption is ‘drivetrain’ issue? I’d start with the obvious - any loose bearings / mounts on the prop or rear diff? If the CV joint was fubar, it would normally be noisy when making a full-lock turn left or right.

Freelander 2 – Sudden heavy judder/stall-like jolt under load after clutch/flywheel & driveshaft seal replacement

They are going down the IDM route on the fuelling side… Re-reading your post, are you saying the symptoms are there under heavy engine power/revs, even if stationary?

It does sound ‘mechanical’ from your description, or perhaps the Haldex ‘scrabbling’, which is a known issue on the ecm and an easy fix. From your description of ‘strong physical jolt’, it might not be this, but it’s a very simple check you can do… Pull the fuse in the boot (FB6) and then giving...

Another day - another bump for free. Maybe it might help if you said ‘where’ in the country you are / it is. And perhaps a few pictures of underneath/arches, so peeps can see that apart from a snorkel and a winch, it’s not got general rust issues etc.?

What have you done to your Freelander today

If it works, it works 😉

    Freelander 2 (LR2) Stand-alone CarPlay screen

Nope. I haven’t put another screen in it. I have put a usb player via the aux line in and 12v cigar lighter, which sounds excellent through the factory system. Lots to choose from, depending on what you want it to do / quality your willing to pay for.

    Thoughts on EGR removal

+1 There is a gutted EGR on my F1, simply ‘fitted’. No need to update any ECU at all. Still absolutely fine. There might even be a blank on my F2…
