I don't know what you do for a living but if I was writing computer programs I'd be concerned. Or anything that can be done sitting in front of a computer for that matter. It was only a few months ago I tried to get ChatGPT to write something much more simple and it sucked so bad I ended up...

    Freelander 1 Freelander EV

You'll not be surprised to learn of another issue that only came up while testing with the battery nearly full. I set it to charge remotely while I was able to watch it and was pleased to see it working as described right up until the charge completed. Immediately the relays turned off they...

    Freelander 1 Freelander EV

Oh Oh! I spoke too soon 😲 I've been doing lots of testing to confirm all is working correctly and discovered two separate issues so am working through them now. The first was when I tried to adjust the cut off voltage where the car stops charging. Up until now I haven't let it get to full...

    Freelander 1 Freelander EV

Just a wee update on driving and charging. The car has been driving great since the 12V relay module was replaced. :D I've only driven around miles 60 since but it's been flawless. TBH I had always questioned the wisdom of using ultra cheap Chinese 12V relay modules in such a critical location...

What have you done to your Freelander today

Yesterday I had the wheels aligned. The nearside rear was a pig as the suspension is all original on that side but the guy used Oxy to heat the nuts and they moved easily. All the rest had been loosened before so were not too bad but the job still took almost two hours. Drives nice and straight...

It's good to hear you got the insurance sorted. I tried Admiral Multicar for my EV conversion but no joy. We've had Admiral multicar for a long time but they couldn't figure out how to put 'EV Conversion' into their system. They did give me a great quote for the van I recently bought though so...

    Freelander 1 Auto 1.8

The DSG gearbox ion the Octavia was very nice in many ways but (I guess) because it had clutches rather than a torque converter the engine could not build up revs before engaging the auto clutch. It was fine on the flat but pulled away really slowly on any incline. I wasn't sure the The 1.8 K...

    Freelander 1 Auto 1.8

My first Auto was a Skoda Octavia with a DSG gearbox and a 1.5 litre turbo diesel engine. It was hopelessly under powered until the turbo kicked in so pulling away from an uphill junction was downright scary. It wasn't possible to hold the brake and build up the revs as the accelerator didn't do...

Brilliant mate, :D well done on such a huge project. You must be well chuffed to get it running but even more so that it runs so well. Believe me I understand the concern that doing the conversion might result in a car that drives but is not pleasant to be in. I was listening closely to...

    Freelander 1 Freelander EV

We're driving again! πŸ˜€ During testing I was poking about at the wiring and suddenly one of the relays in the relay module triggered and after a few minutes more poking I figured it looks like the relay module is faulty. This is the offending module. Ignore the missing jumper, I had to pinch...

    Freelander 1 Freelander EV

Thanks mate, every little helps. :) I'm not too concerned as it will probably be something stupid I've done like a disconnected wire or some such. I spent months working on the startup procedure to get it reliable as it seems to be very fussy about what gets powered on first but I've added so...

Sadly these are the latest additions to the "Shelf of Shame" RIP little fellas In reality they're not completely dead but injured enough I wouldn't trust them for anything much. The digital pins 10 and 11 are no longer working and probably others too. This is what I am using now...

What have you done to your Freelander today

Stretch a length of string down the side of the car so it touches the back wheel and just touches the front. It will give you a rough guide on how far out of alignment the front wheels are. If they are a mile out then maybe that's the issue but if close then probably not. You can get pretty...

    Freelander 1 Freelander EV

The shunt has pack negative and positive so is able to send out the pack voltage by CAN. The inverter does the same. By plagiarising the work of others I have a ready made way of reading the CAN from the shunt and inverter so although the charger might be able to do the same I'm sticking with...

Another thing I discovered was that the circuit I built (on the previous page of this thread) to sense when the charger plug is pushed in and send a Gnd to power my Arduino Nano, sends positive 12V when the plug is not in. I suspect this may be what killed my first Nano. :(

    Freelander 1 Freelander EV

Yes mate, it's currently triggered by the brake light switch and as I was writing the post above it occurred I could use it but I need to confirm it won't pull on the brake lights but I guess another relay would sort that. I think there is an ignition switch for the inverter too which also...

    Freelander 1 Freelander EV

Over the weekend I discovered that disconnecting Gnd from the accelerator pedal to prevent the car driving away while the charge cable is plugged in is NOT A GOOD IDEA! At one point during testing I turned on the ignition and the motor suddenly revved without warning. Thankfully I had the car...
