Been thinking about them bolts. Maybe hammer a m10 or m12 nut over the bolt head, then weld nut to bolt head, gives you more meat to play with.

    200Tdi

I would grind the bolt heads off, remove the timing cover, strip that down and then remove the timing chest which could be fun! then you have full access to remains of the bolts, the worst three are normally the ones around the water gallery (top right in first pic), all the timing cover bolts...

    Defender 90 - 1987 - leaky sunroof

    200Tdi

200 not used for a while or idling for a good while can white smoke like a bar steward until the stat has opened ie about 4/5 miles, so do not condemn the engine until you have given it a proper roadtest. Even if the 200 is totally shagged it will start and run okay, my 200 in the s2 is worn out...

Range Rover TDV8 3.6 valve face to Cylinder head face measurements. Or 2.7TDV6

Bent is bent, think the cams bearings are line bored with the cam caps fitted, so once head bent they are scrap. Be interesting to know what caused them to warp in the first place?

    200 or 300tdi disco 1

300tdi auto N reg onwards were edc engines, pre N reg they had normal throttle cables/injection pumps, EDC autos are slow beyond belief, though when chipped they will beat a std manual td5 hands down. Rover V8s are just crap, and if they are not when you buy it they soon will be.

Do as suggested and remove and cut open the oil filter, if it has bits in then there is no need to go any further.

    200tdi overheating

The capilliary type gauges are pretty decent. Have had one on my 200tdi for years, very accurate and requires no power. Tim is the make I have fitted.

    200tdi overheating

I have only ever seen my 200 get got twice, once off roading it in the winter for hours and the thing nearly heat seized! and two when the new stat failed to open, but car still got me the 10 miles home driven gingerly. No viscous on mine, leccy fitted but very rarely switched on. Maybe get...

    Leak from underneath defender 90

The problem is the front seal can be a right tawt as you can replace it and it can leak again and again and again, but you have to start somewhere! Not a massive job, your biggest issue will be finding any garage that is prepared to work on an old land rover, as the land rovers can be trouble...
