FL1 Front Drive Shafts + More

Your first problem, well actually 2nd after spending quite a bit of cash on 2 drive shafts!, will be getting the hub nuts off. They are on super tight. Be prepared to battle with them. Scaffold poles over breaker bar and jumping up and down - or rest on the ground and let the engine do it if...

    Worth new clutch

This may sound stupid, but can other people hear this whine? My L Series was making a funny sound. My family could not hear it, 2 garages could not hear it. But the 2nd one I instructed to change the cambelt anyway. End result was a louder funny sound that nobody else could hear! That was...

Prices not making sense to me! LR2. 2.2 HSE

Its a shame the diffs on all models are only rated to 50hp :vb-groan2:

What have you done to your Freelander today

I did wonder that, and have kept them, but wasn't sure if the boots could be replaced.

What have you done to your Freelander today

Replaced the drop links yesterday. Fookin Land Rover unreliability. Only been on the car 25 years. They still felt perfect when I took them off, but a boot was split, so I was told they need replacing when it was last WOFed and its due again. I was expecting them to be trashed because there...

Prices not making sense to me! LR2. 2.2 HSE

The lower priced one is a TD4 (160hp) with 80k on the clock. The higher priced one is an SD4 (190hp) with 43k on the clock. They are bound to be different prices. My TD4 has ample poke for me.

Freelander 2 (LR2) Rear Diff Rumble / Judder Just Started

Should say, that it may be the Haldex with the problem, but it will presumably do a good job of taking the diff out.

Freelander 2 (LR2) Rear Diff Rumble / Judder Just Started

Mine does that. It stops for a while, then when you think its cleared, it comes back. Maybe I just get used to it and don't notice it for a while. I recon its the Haldex rather than diff. There's something about a cylinder that get scored and catches what ever slides in it - or summat like...

Freelander 2 (LR2) Non starter, help please

Way above my pay grade, especially on F2. But a little investigation makes me wonder why a spacer was "made up". It looks like the ring changed spec, so a 2 piece ring (that would have been originally fitted to an 07 car) was replaced by a ring and spacer - so was an old type taken off and a...

Freelander 1 Freelander 1 - Dacia Steel Wheels

I was at my wealthiest at 25. Had my own flat, no wife, no kids, loaded. Its the next 30 years where you struggle! Then there's a brief period of wealth, before, presumably, you struggle again.

Freelander 1 Brake light switch woes, blowing fuse

So the rusted rear lights seam to be working and couldn't be causing a random short circuit? I'd be stripping them down and making sure they, and the wiring, is in good condition before looking for the complex answers. I'm not sure why they would throw the 2 amigos, but I'd definitely rule...

    Freelander 2 (LR2) Immobiliser

Not sure why Freelanders would be 'targets' for theft. They have little value and parts are cheap. Plenty being auctioned for nothing because they have been crashed. I'm sure the standard security provided in Freelander is more than adequate to stop opportune thieves. Replace the locking...

    Freelander 2 (LR2) Immobiliser

Some would say that inbuilt JLR build quality gives an inherent immobilisation characteristic. Why would you want more?

Freelander2 Centre console removal, Electric Handbrake?

At work we have a fleet of about 130 LDV vans. 'LDV New Zealand' agreed we could act as the service center for our vans - ie we could service them and maintain the warranties and get support from them. As part of that we bought $10K diagnostic machines for both depots. The machines updated...

Freelander 1 Rapid tyre and brake wear

When I got my F2 it had just had a service including new pads. They squealed real bad in reverse. Took a long time to go away. Must have had it a year now and they still squeal sometimes.

Freelander 2 wont start, short crank

How many CCA is the battery rated to and how many did the tester say it had? I think as well there is a recommendation to add an additional earthing strap or summat on F2. Presumably though a jump starts would also suffer from any earthing problems.

Steering Column Locked - Freelander 2

I only had 1 key with the car when I bought it. I bought some spares from AliExpress and programmed them into the car with an Autel AP200.

Freelander 1 Rapid tyre and brake wear

He doesn't need to investigate what needs replacing - just replace everything, its all very cheap and its nonsensical not to replace everything. Drums, cylinders, shoes (and clips that should come with them), springs - maybe the adjuster can be reused. He may find that the pipes from the...

Freelander2 Centre console removal, Electric Handbrake?

Its basically a circular 'contact' that goes around the steering column. It enables the bits that spin on the steering wheel (eg the air bag) to make contact with the wires that go to the bits they needs to (eg the SRS ECU). 1 side is fixed to the contact, the other side 'rubs' on the contact...

    Excessive black smoke

Did you measure the oil with the engine at the same temperature? A hot engine will expand the oil by up to 0.5L over a cold one depending on the capacity of the engine - I think if the engine's capacity is 7L cold, when hot it will expand to almost 7.5L
