    Cleaning out Intercooler

We used petrol on a TD4 cooler with no problems. A thick rubber glove on each end after putting in about a pint of petrol, and lots of shaking it around. Then drained it & did it again. Finally left it upright in the sunshine to dry out before re-fitting. On daughter in-law's BMW 120D we...

Exactly. A full HG kit is around £100 depending what you buy. Adding ARP studs & maybe a selection of other nuts & bolts is another £200. At least 10 times less than liners & essentially a full rebuild. If the liners are slipping they will either be a few thou below or proud of the block...

Eas system holds air then drops after driving and turn off

There's several things that will stop EASunlock talking to the car. 1) As Keith pointed out above, the USB-Serial driver install needs to be done in the correct sequence. you must uninstall the Microsoft windows driver first. (see below) 2) Bad connections between the diagnostic port and the...

Eas system holds air then drops after driving and turn off

How much pressure ? The tank should generally be from 120-140psi when it's full. If the compressor is tired (usually from feeding a leak somewhere), the tank will never fill, and you will get apparently random faults as the ECU tries to adjust. FYI the faults often don't make sense but...

Remember many of the nuts & bolts on the V8 heads & block are Imperial due to it's USA origin, so always check. The rest of the P38 is metric.

    [P38] Exhaust gases in coolant

When I rebuilt one of mine, I found the prev owner had overtightened the stretch bolts & damaged the block threads. Got the block helicoiled, and used Arp Studs. Much easier to torque the heads properly. The only downside is the cost is several times the price of new stretch bolts. To...

Make sure the garage adheres to the LR specs. If you do need to have the heads skimmed, make sure they do both the block & inlet faces by the same amount. This will ensure the inlet manifold fit properly. Valley gasket needs to be done properly with some RTV in the 4 notches where the...

    Sunroof....again

I did my son's one last year. Definitely a pain to align properly, but with patience & lots of careful measurement you will get there. Do it with the complete assembly on a bench or table, and get the slides moving from fully open to fully closed before fitting the glass frame to the slides.

It can also be the front cover gasket weeping into the coolant around the water pump. Definitely worth doing compression test on all 8 cylinders. Take all the spark plugs out first. Also flush & refill the coolant with water, and test again after it's run for 10-20mins. Put your town name...

P38A Rear hub assembly FTC3223 from Eurospares anyone tried them?

How are the Eurospares bearing going after a year ? I'm getting a rumble on mine about 60-65mph, mainly from the seat & floor, but not through the steering wheel. Feels like either rear wheels need balancing, or the bearings on their way out. Tell-tale might be the leak from rear offside...
