Changed the pump (as I had one as a spare) ticking all gone. Blew down the lines while there. Thanks for the advice. Worry I haven't tightened the lines back up enough as it took more than normal cranking today to start, will keep nipping them up.

Went for a drive today and the ticking was back. There is NO loss in power though so maybe it's no the fuel, could be the VAC pump??

It's not anything on the belt.

haven't, nothing looks or feels loose or wobbly, and its a a good loud noise, but i'd love it if it was a pulley. trouble is getting the car warm so ticking starts without belt on. we'll see.

Was doing some tidying up of cables and had to remove one of the batteries. This white stuff was found only along the edge of the inside of the box. It was like small crystals, and when touched it was wet. The weird one was the sludge in the back corner was was running. Is this leaking acid...
