    Is there any alternative now?

I'm spraying the HMG enamel on. Goes on smooth if you get it right. I'm a total novice and i'm struggling for space but it's possible. Also the kit i'm using is the cheapest stuff I can get my hands on and by all accounts not up to the job really.

If it is a series 3 try to gently talk him out of it. They look terrible. ;)

    Can I save my bulkhead

I don't know if this will help but here's a link to when I did mine. One thing though, if something doesn't seem to fit well don't find ways to adapt things like I did. Really get to the bottom of what the problem is otherwise it just leads to so much hassle later. Guess how I know that...

    Can I save my bulkhead

100% agree with @catman275 above. I thought I was being as careful and precise as I could possibly be and yet as I now come to reassemble things I'm finding that stuff has moved. I did use britpart panels though which was really stupid but I didn't know any better at the time.

    Steve's unexpected Series 3 rebuild.

Next was the angle section on the back of the seat box that bolts it to the tub. In the past someone must have removed the seat box and then put it back in but only replaced some of the bolts. This means it got really bent out of shape and it's badly corroded. Some rivets in this bit but a lot...

    Steve's unexpected Series 3 rebuild.

Hi Bob. I'm really inclined to just leave it. You could drive yourself bonkers trying to chase every leak on these things. At the start I really thought that as long as I was careful, followed the instructions and took my time I could keep it dry. But everything that's got oil in so far is...

    Steve's unexpected Series 3 rebuild.

I've been having a crack at the seat box recently. First thing was to sort out that passenger side end panel. Doesn't look too bad from here but's corroded to bits inside from being in contact with the steel of the toolbox. I ground away the metal from the spot welds from the inside. I...

    Steve's unexpected Series 3 rebuild.

So here's the latest problem. I noticed a little oil on the chassis crossmember right under where the gearbox bell housing meets the back of the engine. I ran my finger round the underside and there is a leak. There's no oil in the engine so the only place it can be coming from is the oil seal...

    Can I save my bulkhead

I managed to save mine and it looks like it was worse than yours. Also I’m clueless and just blundered in. The results are far from perfect but it lives again.

    Defender 90 Refresh Lincolnshire

I don't know why i've only just realised whereabouts you are and that I remember driving past and seeing the body and chassis sitting side by side like that. We were on the way for a walk on the beach at Sandilands at the time. I thought it looked like an interesting project but never thought...

Thanks mate. As they say round this way, we just keep buggering on in steady and we'll get there.

    Steve's unexpected Series 3 rebuild.

Time is unbelievably short isn't it? We had look at what we've got on for the next few weeks and there is something going on every weekend until the holiday then this other job is going to kick off in September and probably drag on into October by when James is back at school and starting the...

    Steve's unexpected Series 3 rebuild.

Next I started to trial fit stuff in the cab area. Petrol tank back in. I sorted this out not long ago so I know it fits. If you cast your minds back years you might remember that I repaired/remade the side rail, sill/floor support things. I was really pleased with them as I had got them...

The puraflex 40 sealer got another chance to do it's stuff. I'm going to try and seal as many places as I can as it goes back together.

    Steve's unexpected Series 3 rebuild.

I had convinced myself that I wouldn't go bonkers with filler and just accept that it's a battered old Land Rover but I can't help it. Doesn't look too bad like that but those darker coloured low spots would stick out like a sore thumb when the primer went on let alone top coat.

So it's been six weeks or so since I posted anything. Must have made tons of progress in that time eh? Don't be daft! I got more or less bugger all done. So much going on at home. It's been the end of my son's first year of GCSE's so I was helping him with revision most nights. Still faffing...
