Freelander 2 (LR2) Front suspension clunk and judder (SOLVED)

Centre bearings are available for the F2 online - but I’m guessing it’s not an easy job. If that mount is indeed fubar, then I think it’s easier just to fit a new prop. It’ll all be the same age, so preventative maintenance at least.

    FL2 versus BMW X5?

    No

Freelander 2 (LR2) Front suspension clunk and judder (SOLVED)

I know - I did one on mine. I thought it would be the same for the F2, but an afternoon of research suggests not 🙄

Freelander 2 (LR2) Front suspension clunk and judder (SOLVED)

It certainly looks like it’s a new prop job… I’m just hoping that’s the issue, and not something else!

No idea - not looked further yet

Freelander 2 (LR2) Front suspension clunk and judder (SOLVED)

So, although I said I was leaving it, curiosity and a spare hour today beat me - had a nosey under the car at potential sources of the clunk noise and wobble (may be the same issue or different ones). Front roll bar bushes seem tight - no movement with a lever on the bar. Then looked around...

I would just like to say

I recently removed a lot of grass near my driveway and laid some nice gravel down. That was after digging a lot of it out and laying some type 1 or something similar, as a base. Anyway, the compactor I hired for the weekend was a lot heavier than that, it took two of us to lift it in and out the...

    Freelander 1 Knocking??

The sounds can appear to be from somewhere when in fact they are not - so I’d look further than front o/s. Check the rear diff mounts.

Freelander 2 (LR2) Front suspension clunk and judder (SOLVED)

Think there is something else to it. Can hear a faint ‘clonk’ at low speed on bumps.

We’ll welcome you in the Freelander section. Nice looking 2

Freelander 2 (LR2) Front suspension clunk and judder (SOLVED)

Update I switched the n/s driveshaft out for another new one. Bad news is it wasn’t that causing the ‘wobble’. Good news is I now have a spare front n/s driveshaft I guess 🙄 I then switched the new n/s strut (complete) out for the old one (which was ok, but changed as a pair). The ‘wobble’ is...

    1 year old Defender 90 with 50 miles - service/oil change

I’ll change it for £700… Might take me 2 weeks 😉

    Freelander 1 Auto 1.8

Are the mod policies much dearer in comparison to what a normal one would cost you? For example - is it costing you 20% due to off-road mods?

There is… Apple can do it all for you. Prolly Android can do the same.

Freelander 2 (LR2) Front suspension clunk and judder (SOLVED)

Yes, I remember it too (now you have reminded me!) To be honest, I get most of my stuff from Advanced Factors, which are quite good for their LR parts. I spoke to them today and they’d not heard of any issues with them and will warranty the shaft if I find the replacement solves it. Of course...

Freelander 2 (LR2) Front suspension clunk and judder (SOLVED)

Update; Given that I have not touched the hub (appreciate it ‘could’ be damaged), and there is no noticeable wobble when rocking the wheel left/right or up/down, I’m ruling that out at present. Given that I’ve also double-checked the struts and all bolts etc., I’m assuming they are correct. So...

Freelander 2 (LR2) Front suspension clunk and judder (SOLVED)

It’s got me, as if it were the driveshaft or the hub, I would have expected the judder/wobble to be felt under all conditions (?), but I’m only getting it on hard acceleration, when the weight is transferred off the front. Once the weight transfer back to normal driving conditions, there is...

Freelander 2 (LR2) Front suspension clunk and judder (SOLVED)

Got the go-pro on the n/a wheel this morning. Doesn’t give much away really, other than the new strut ‘looks’ like it’s doing what it should be doing, and I can;t see anything untoward or loose. So pointing towards the new driveshaft being faulty, or hub issue.
