Thing is, if it's lumpy its more than likely a 286, next one down is 276 which is relatively smooth, 286 not too bad but it may overheat a bit without vac advance on the dizzy

Cam is stamped on the end so could take timing gear off and have a look

.wirh engine out you can turn it upside down to keep cam followers in place an draw cam out of block

Perished fuel lines, fuel pump weak, filter in float bowl top, breather hose wrong on carb, breather blocked in fuel tank cap, piston in carb seized/stuck so needle not moving

I'd be looking at fuel. Spray some carb cleaner / easy start etc/ into the carb see if it runs Theres a little filter in top of float bowl might be blocked, rubbers in fuel line may be perished and porous, mech fuel pump (if it has one) may be goosed etc

If the ignition parts are clean, wires all good and insulated then the damp wont affect it, You could spray water on my old racer engine and it never missed a beat. The water gets in at the joins and spade connector covers if they are old

Been a clever boy and looked in the handbook :cool: There's a little plastic cover under where the number plate lights are and under it is a key slot ... sorted. Battery has very little power in it so I think it's new battery time New cars eh, old truck cracked up first turn :D
