ahhh there's james :) i take it your talking about the plate with 8 bolts. i'll see if i can pick up a gasket tomorrow and get on it. however i have NO clue at all what im looking for in there :S

got back later than planned, but on a serious note any idea's now what it is! the disco gets more of a work out than most and mx season is back up and running from sunday so would like to try get it fixed or at least work out whats dead before then.

no props 2nd gear lifting the clutch creates my clunk. (all gears will do it but 1st was a little quieter on the cam and 3rd well why go higher than needed lol) my handbrake drum with no props attached

should be safe to weld as long as your not a splatter welder however as biggeeeeeee said best bet would be take it off tackle it all in 1 go :)

i have a disco 1 have had a few leaks on the ps system but always topped up with ATF. not had any issues other than the couple of little leaks but as always with ps if it leaks i top it up until it blocks itself lol a method i have used on everything i have owned with ps..

would i be correct in thinking either way something aint happy there and it might be worth looking for a 2nd hand full axle!

that play i was talking about in the front diff. got under it while at asda and recorded it.

not too sure but i'll try get the wheels off and have a look tomorrow if weather isnt too bad. silly question but even though the front prop is off (new nuts and bolts in post for that) if the half shafts or diff had play in it would it still knock and could it actually sound a little worse...

have got it yes but not too good at navigating it. if its a flange off jobby then maybe i'll just get a new nut for now and carry on trying to find my main problem :(

ok so the obvious i have to remove the drum to get in and change the bolts but how much of a pain in the ass is changing them actually going to be! fighting a never ending battle and losing at the moment so might as well be prepared for the worse case.
