    Ignition switch?

Thanks for your replies guys. Yep, you are both right. It turns out to be the switch. I ordered a second hand job on fleabay for £18 but while waiting thought I'll have a go at cleaning the contacts. I could just about get a narrow strip of 1000 grade paper between the starter contacts without...

    Ignition switch?

Hello all! I seem to have a strange problem with my 2000MY Lseries XEDi. Coming up to 150000 miles and normally dead reliable at starting. Turning the key gives nothing except the dash display as normal. Turn to position 2 for starter gives nothing, not even a click. A quick rummage under the...

    L-series cam belt failure

Hi GG! I guess you could put a handle and a set of wheels on it and try and pass it off as hand luggage. It won't arf give you a headache if it falls on your head though! It is more like 50kg. I don't like scrapping what could be useful to someone. Next job to do is renew the outer bushes and...

    Nice Freeby Winu!

Apologies for hijacking Winu's thread but I saw a reference from grumpy on 'ere about me bagging the last L series engine from Rimmers. You may want to hear how it went...It seems a while ago now but it turns out that it might have been an L series engine but it wasn't a freelander engine. After...

    Freelander 1 Bio diesel?

My March 2000my L-series XEDI has got ABS, TC, HDC and Aircon as did the Jan 1998 one I had before that. Obviously neither had the Ford inspired heated front screen at that time nor heated seats. It is very easy to liven the engine up and I haven't found any particular rust issues. Sun roof and...

Freelander 1 L series HDC warning light

Joe Thanks for your response and solution. It sounds way too complicated for me although I can work a soldering iron. I wondered why nobody had thought of using the Rev lights as work lights. Now I know! Having said that, I find that the work light solution is more use to me than HDC at the...

Freelander 1 L series HDC warning light

Thanks GG for your quick response. I've now replaced the Revo light bulbs with very bright LEDs which are brilliant for my particular needs. I wouldn't want to go back to gearstick operation. Thinking about the cause of the warning light, it didn't come up when I first altered the wiring but...

Freelander 1 L series HDC warning light

I'm hoping for some tips on how to deal with the HDC warning light, apart from gaffer tape over distracting light! There are no other lights showing just HDC. I've had a look at all four wheel sensors which seem to be physically OK and I'm at a loss to know where else to start looking. My Hippo...

    Freelander 1 rotating tyres

Hi guys, I've had Two L series hippos from new (one at a time!) current one (2000MY) has done 145k miles and the tyres have all done over 40k miles. I've always renewed tyres 2 at a time and always put new tyres on the rear. I sometimes swap them side to side but never front to back. Always had...

For Sale £00.00 An L series engine (fubar'd) South Bucks

A failed L series engine which suffered a jammed timing belt (see my posts) I suspect that followers are smashed but have not even removed the head. The engine has covered 100k plus miles but has had regular short oil changes. I suspect that the bottom end is all that is any good and it would be...

L-series working again and Aircon issues

Cheers guys, thanks for your replies. Nuts still firmly in place! Temperature here in South Bucks yesterday and today 32 degrees C! I've given up with the sunroof which is now sealed shut and to be honest, I mainly use the Aircon for demisting but with these temps any cooling is a bonus! I'll...

Thanks guys for your helpful replies. It always helps to share problems! I think I understand the principle of the deep vacuum and it sounds like it could be worth a try.

L-series working again and Aircon issues

hello all, been a while since I posted. I've been busy! Fitted new engine and the hippo is working well, and I'm happy again! A few minor issues like fitting new clutch hydraulics which appeared to need bleeding and blowing off the turbo hose but I can cope with these.(I saw a post on here which...

    L series dipstick.

Yep same thing happened to me ages ago. You are actually better off without it. You might need to bend the tube so that the dip stick has a straighter run but you don't need the plastic ball thing. In fact mine fell off and blocked the dipstick tube.

    L-series water pump leak

Hello, I've not posted for a while and some of you might remember that I trashed my engine a while ago, when the auxilliary belt started to fray and the knitting it produced wound round the crank pulley and disrupted the cam timing. I've had two l-series from new as well as other Land Rover...

    Ird cooler thermostat

I agree the whole plumbing system is connected but this valve is part of the fitting that screws into the block and has a pipe connection directly to the IRD. The valve in it blocks the flow until it heats up. I know this because I couldn't blow down it until I had heated it up with a kettle...

    Ird cooler thermostat

I'm swapping parts off my old L series engine to a new one when I discovered that the water pipe outlet from the block which connects to the IRD cooler, contains a tiny thermostat. I checked it with hot water and it works! I bet not many people know about this! The old engine is Fubar, anyone...

    L series parts catalogue

Thanks for that ZDZ. A useful link which show the various parts. The o ring is shown under water pump and is numbered 3. It is clearly not one of the three o rings associated with the water pump itself. There doesn't seem to be a LR part number to go with this part. Am I right? Happyhippo
