    Replacing brake pipes

Thanks everyone. I ordered the full kit with kunifer tube. Also order a pipe bending tool. My refurbished steering box, new drop arm and new rear A-frame ball joint has arrived so I have plenty to do this weekend.

    Replacing brake pipes

Thanks I will take a look. As I mentioned I found the shorter ones on eBay but couldn’t find the long pipe leading from the front along the chassis and want to fit a new one before fitting the body back.

    Replacing brake pipes

Thanks. Was it easy to make up? I have the old pipe to use as a template but worry it might start to leak when the body is back on and engine fitted.

    Replacing brake pipes

Hi all. Anyone know the part number or where to buy the brake pipe running along the chassis front to rear? The rear and front pipes are easily and reasonably priced on eBay but can’t find that longer one running from the front to the rear axle. Alternatively how difficult are they to make up...

    DVLA rules for chassis change

I found the vin plate ok, it was on the brake servo, it was the stamped section of the chassis I was panicking about, someone advised to cut that and retain before scrapping the old chassis. I searched every inch but nothing. If I hadn’t been told where it was I wouldn’t have found it as it...

    DVLA rules for chassis change

Thanks everyone, I’ve found it now. It took a while with a wire brush attachment on a drill to remove the 36 years of oil and crud that had built up. cheers

    DVLA rules for chassis change

Thanks everyone for the advice. I’ve finally found time to remove the body. Now the chassis is exposed where is the section I need to remove with the original numbers? It’s so dirty (hosepipe ban so can’t pressure wash it at moment) and heavily corroded I can’t find the number stamp or vin...

    DVLA rules for chassis change

I’m in the process of a chassis swap on my defender and just wanted to ask if there’s any pitfalls or consequences regarding the dvla or registration. As I understood it, provided the new chassis was a match for the original specification no action is required regarding registering the new...

    Chassis swap

That’s really helpful, thank you. I can see where the front straps are attached to the body it the bulkhead and so at what point? Also, did you have to remover the brake and clutch cylinders from the bulkhead? I was hoping to just disconnect them from the peddles and pipes. The engine and box...

    Chassis swap

I had been meaning to raise this point. I read somewhere the car risks being given a Q registration number of the chassis is replaced?

    Chassis swap

I have seen an excellent thread where someone did this and it was very informative included a full order of how he removed up but I can’t find it now.

    Chassis swap

That’s a good point. I’ve ordered the degreaser, t wash and etch primer but wasn’t sure what’s the best final coat? Was going to paint the axles also if any left.

    Chassis swap

Hi all. My shiny new chassis arrived today and now safely stored. So far the bulkhead and seat box look suspiciously solid so I’m going to try and lift the body whole (less wings and doors). thank you all not only for all the advice and reassurance but also the welcome. I’m sure I will...

    Chassis swap

Hi. I just finished reading your thread, thank you for the link. Wow that was so impressive, not just the attention to detail but how quickly you progressed with the limited time, man power and facilities. I’ve never seen it carried out in the order that you chose, but understand how it reduced...

    Chassis swap

Thanks Litch I will read your thread later, I find other peoples accounts very interesting and informative. I totally agree that to fully dismantle is a better and proper refurb. I’m not too worried about the additional either really as, like most people on here, my Landu is my pride and joy...
