    200Tdi conversion tidy up...advice/comments please!

Owas...the Disco engine was fitted long before the Defender came into my ownership.

    200Tdi conversion tidy up...advice/comments please!

Owas...thanks...but how would these sense the water temperature? I guess I'm looking for more of a "kit" that has everything in. Would one of these fit the bill? I know it's bottom end stuff, but TBH the engine runs so cool it hardly seems worth spending any more! Sp00k...good shout...a bit...

    200Tdi conversion tidy up...advice/comments please!

I've got an 1986 110 that was originally a 2.5 NA but had a Disco 200Tdi engine thrown in the general direction of the engine bay before I bought it. Over the past few weeks I've replaced the fried starter motor, fitted a full Tdi exhuast system including Steve Parker downpipe, and today I've...

    Starter fried I think...

Yeah, I did actually buy a second hand Disco filter housing ready to do this some time ago, however when I spoke to Glencoyne they said it probably wouldn't fit without clocking the turbo which to be honest I didn't fancy doing. So I have gone for the Steve Parker job (yet to be fitted the...

    Starter fried I think...

Well, we had a similar issue again yesterday! New starter was spinning even after the key was removed! I had a spanner near the battery box for just such an eventuality so disconnected it sharpish, and I have now fitted the new switch off the back of the advice posted here. I started it 10-15...

    Starter fried I think...

Well, she lives. Starter is in, and a whole new Tdi exhaust is fitted so at least we are mobile again. The Steve Parker downpipe is expensive, but a good fit and well made. The whole truck is definitely quieter, and goes better too...although the old exhaust was a) rusted to buggery and b)...

I did all four...however the chassis was coming up with the engine!

    Starter fried I think...

Well, exactly a year ago tody I was stood in a hospital delivery room. There was shouting, screaming, swearing, lots of blood, torches being shone in places to see what the hell was stuck on where, big scary tools and implements being used to ease the way, a final massive effort to push things...

Best choice for the spare small dash gauge - oil temp/voltage/tacho?

Flat where does the oil pressure sender pick up from? Is is possible to put in some kind of adaptor so you can have both the original dash light and the gauge for resiliency...plus an oil temp sender too?

Best choice for the spare small dash gauge - oil temp/voltage/tacho?

I have a voltmeter in the spare hole, plus a SPA combined oil and water temp gauge where the old temp gauge was. I was lucky...I bought it cheap off a mate who was breaking a track day car. However having both critical temps accurate to a tenth of a degree right under my nose is very...

Nice one Zeaphod, thanks for posting. Looks good! That turbo mount stud visible on the pic...that's the one that broke :-(

    Starter fried I think...

Cheers guys, really appreciate the help. The broken stud is turbo to manifold. Sodding thing, I started to undo it and the whole stud was turning (I checked as I could see both ends) until suddenly "bang". There's a few threads proud of the turbo so I may get a nut on it...or TBH it may even...

    Starter fried I think...

Well, it's not gone well tonight... So, exhaust off so I could get to the starter and off it came. However, getting it out is a nightmare (remember it's a Disco engine). It's just too big to get down between the chassis and the engine block (we're talking mm here, but it just won't go) so the...

    Series 1 green paint colours

Guys I'm looking to rebuild and respray my early 110 next year, and I'm looking to do a bit of a Heritage edition homage. Obviously we all know HUE166, which I think is the same colour as the Heritage edition Defenders and H166 HUE... However it's just a bit light for my tastes, and I've...

    Starter fried I think...

Cheers for the help guys. The 110 is 1986, and I've never seen the brake warning light ever light up before. And certainly the orange glow plug light shouldn't be on when the ignition is switched off! Very good point though that it might be a low fluid light, I'd not thought of that. However...

Discovery Box in a TD5 Defender, my experience

MungoPark, you have summed up my experiences of the Disco transfer box perfectly. Actually, mine is a Disco 2 box, so ever so slightly taller geared again. A couple of points to add... My 110 had the Disco box in it when I bought it, so I've not owned a Defender with the standard box in it...

    Starter fried I think...

First sign of trouble was a few weeks ago. Starting from cold, a click from a relay behind the dash but nothing else. Eventually after many tries and clicks the starter turned and it started. Engine is a Disco 200Tdi in a Defender by the way. Today I started it...no issues, but for some...

    52mm tacho into a Disco 200Tdi engined 110

Cheers but the last thing I want to do is start revving the nuts off my beloved 200Tdi, it's a Land Rover after all. I have a car with a gorgeous sounding flat 6 in it that ticks that box for me instead :-). I just wanted to know what the max revs were so I could get a rev counter with the...

    52mm tacho into a Disco 200Tdi engined 110

Thanks for the help people. Can someone confirm that this is a Disco alternator and has the required "W" terminal? There's a little black box on the right with a spare connection doing nothing at the moment...be nice if that was it...

    LT77 reverse light switch...two types?

One of the wires has pulled out of the body of my reverse light switch, which is the PRC8204 type. I'm guessing it probably can't be repaired and I need a new one, however the PRC8204 is vastly more expensive than the PRC2911 variant. Are they interchangeable at all, perhaps with the aid of a...
