    110 Roof Removal and Refitting

yeah can't be the paint - there is too much space for it to be because of it... The roof should be well aligned as I have already fixed the back of it and it all went smoothly, so I was thinking either: 1-it is the new seal which is very thick 2-I should loose all the bolts between roof and...

    110 Roof Removal and Refitting

Hey guys! As I am rebuilding Wheely following a complete respray I put the seals between roof and bulk head/windscreen frame (as per pic) BUT: when I tight the roof completely with the nuts and bolts there is still a big gap between windscreen frame and roof (see pic) the seal between bulkhead...

    Gravitex paint on rims

Hey guys, I am painting the original Defender rims - I would be using the vehicle for overlanding so between mud and sand. I'd love to hear your thoughts on whether UPOL Gravitex paint would be suitable for this use rather than a normal base coat/hardener and clear coat. thanks for your...

Hey Mate - good to have another Landy fan in Accra - my work is being done by AutoJewelling - it's the best of the bunch out here (they do maserati, bentley's, etc..) but not up to my expectations honestly - what kind of job are you looking out for?

    Raptorising my 6x4 Landy

guys, job done! :) painted inside out and is looking brilliant! will post some pics as soon as I have some time. Now as I approach putting it all back together I have a question for you: to put back the shutters at the back i will need to drill some holes to put some bolts into the freshly...

To remove or not to remove the dashboard - this is the question....

Hey guys - complete dash removed and to my pleasure there was very little sign of rust - very glad on how Wheely is keeping on! 1- on the seam between the dash and the footwell you could see some rust. So I have enlarged a bit the seam and applied inside some waxoyl - once dries I seam-sealed...

    Tub repairs...mig welding?

assuming I can't find ALU and I need to put an old steel plate: I can access the spot from the exterior of the vehicle, clean, apply steel patch with PU seal and gasket, and on the inside I just put filler and then spray - sounds like a deal?

    Tub repairs...mig welding?

ok so can I make the gasket our of sikaflex basically going around the steel patch so that the two materials don't touch each other? if I put sikaflex would I also need to rivet? taking into account this is in the rear tub and will be covered with insulation...

    Tub repairs...mig welding?

Thanks @neilly - I can't get hold of a ALU plate here and with the little I understand the plate has to be also ALU to avoid the galvanic corrossion though right? since the plate would be exposed to water and be in contact with the ALU panel it can't be of normal steel? I am sure you have a...

    Tub repairs...mig welding?

Hello guys, I am about to paint the interior of the Defender and there is a large hole (pic attached). I can close the small hole with a rivet (and placing some PU seal around it to avoid water passing through since we don't have here water tight rivets) but I am thinking of a creative...

To remove or not to remove the dashboard - this is the question....

Great - glad to hear - thanks for the tips - is it common to find rusted parts underneath the complete dash ? is it the surface rust I noticed in the uppser side of the passenger an early warning on what I may find ? :S

To remove or not to remove the dashboard - this is the question....

Hey guys, As many of you know by now I am currently doing a restoration on my fireservice-yard-find 6-wheeler defender. I surprisingly found very little rust so far (despite it being 22 years 5 of which stalled) - as you can see from the pics of the footwell on engine bay side these are solid...

    defender door rebuild

Hey all, As I have sprayed the whole car I also removed the internal lining of the doors to check their state and all doors are in pretty good shape (1996 built) I am not stripping off the skin nor repainting the steel structure and the skins separately - I just left it as it was and sprayed it...

    Raptorising my 6x4 Landy

Great @dag019 I also thought so - the workshop says that there will be challenges in reassembling it as the raptor lines is quite thick - wouldn't be as simple as masking the parts that need to be assembled together to avoid the raptor liner from painting these parts? shall we anyway paint them...

    Raptorising my 6x4 Landy

Hey guys, paint stripped and next week I am going to paint it up. Since it's now back to bare steel and alu - do you recommend me to use Acid #8 Etch primer or UPOL anticorrosive epoxy primer ? is it better to paint whilst disassembled (front wings, windscreen frame, etc...) or best to...

    Defender overhaul: new seals

Bought the original LR for the roof seals to be on the safe side, but now that we are stripping it down it's confirmed that it wasn't having any prior - it'll be a nice upgrade hopefully.. The strip-down has began and in the coming days I will change the seals - few questions on the replacement...

Stripped - look like new on the inside

Great thanks mates! Wheely is 1996 so with 22 years on the clock most of which not being used (when I bought it from the fireservice it had about 35,000 miles) I was very surprised to see the various parts in these conditions. There are no loose patches nor on the bulkhead footwells nor on the...
