I have the engine out and also two of the radiators. Not as much room in a disco as a defender. Especially at the back of the engine.

I managed to bend mine back and get the bolts through with a struggle but I now have taken the engine out and when I get another engine, I might try using longer bolts to start. But there again I didn't need to bend the tabs taking the engine out.

    What colour and where about?

Its what I did to get my gearbox off to change the clutch. Not so easy to bend back to get the bolts through again though.

On a disco the pipe bracket is bolted in place using the top two gearbox bolts.

Disco 2 Trolley Jack or just axle stands? Also where to jack?

The trouble with very cheap trolley jacks is that they don't lift high. I have one in the corner of the garage somewhere. They are OK if the car isn't a 4x4. I have never regretted buying my sealey cxd3000 but they are around £100. If I don't have to take the wheels off I like supporting the...

    New td5 cylinder head issues!

When I ran the engine with the oil filler cap off I had this effect. After the piston rings had gone.

    New td5 cylinder head issues!

The piston with 1 on it was definitely piston one and definitely factory fitted. It looks like they put a number on each side so that the fracture joints match up.

Just checked the piston that broke on mine and it is marked up one for cylinder 1 ( assuming cylinder 1 is at the front ).

Just checked the ones I took out of the old engine and they were marked. We have had car since October 2007 and has had no engine work done. I haven't checked but perhaps they are numbered one to five in the factory on both halves.

Thats handy to know. I was thinking of replacing ther rear crankshaft seal when I get another engine. Mainly because I have one and the clutch off the old engine is new ( this year ). I won't be able to get to it on an engine stand, but I might take most of the weight on the engine hoist and...

    Leak...

If the drain tubes are securely fastened to the drain cups then I would leave them if they are patent and water drains through them easily. I left the cups in place and re-applied sealant around them but I suppose a proper job would be to remove them together with old sealant and use new...

    Leak...

The frame is sealed to the body with sealant. The rubber seal is to seal the sunroof glass. One seal for each sunroof. I used sikaflex from a tube applied with an applicator/gun on the rear sunroof frame, but used sealant strip at the front. They have both worked well but the strip was...

Where do you put your axle stands?

When we changed the clutch in March.the gearbox was suspended from an engine hoist through the centre console. I asked my wife to pump the hoist to lift the gearbox while I was underneath the car. After a bit I asked her if she was pumping the handle as the gearbox didn't seem to be lifting...

Noit a TD5 gearbox but I am sure he would still have a go. Not sure why he wants to risk it.

I had mine mounted using the two lowest and widest holes and the top two. But I had already taken the head and sump off so was stable.

Best bet is to get a passenger seat and swap the seat base cushion over.

    Disco 2 Chassis waxoyl time

Looks very tidy. I think a decent paint is best for outside of chassis but it is hard to stop the chassis rotting inside.
