Metal buried in tyre carcass ?

Yeah, one is a Deestone Extra Traction (tubed), and the other is an ancient Olympic Mud Plugger (remould made in Australia)

Metal buried in tyre carcass ?

Tried that and can't find anything. Maybe my alignment skills aren't as good as I thought. My thoughts are that if it's something sharp inside the tyre carcass, putting a soft rubber patch over it isn't going to stop a puncture, but it might just reveal the location of the foreign object...

Metal buried in tyre carcass ?

I might just give it another try, just in case I get lucky third time around

Metal buried in tyre carcass ?

Sorry, but I tried that, I should have said. No air bubbles coming through the tread area on the tyre. Once the tube is holed the air is working it's way around to the join between tyre and rim, or coming up the side of the valve stem

Metal buried in tyre carcass ?

I've got the same problem with two of my part worn 7.50x16 crossply tyres. Fitted them to repainted 5.5 rims with brand new tubes. After a few days both developed punctures despite me having checked the insides of the tyres very carefully before fitting them. Fixed the punctures, checked for any...

    Brake servo on a 2A Diesel ?

Many thanks ! Thanks for the heads up on it being from the 300 engine. Pattern vacuum pumps like that trending at about £70 which suits my wallet fine. From experience I know that the petrol lift pump is rated at 2-3 psi, while the diesel lift pump is 3-5psi. I don't think that it's really...

    Brake servo on a 2A Diesel ?

    Q. Would one of these fit a series engine block ? And work from the eccentric cam that normally drives the lift pump ? Apparently it fits a 200Tdi engine unless I've read the description wrongly. And that would leave me in the strange position of having to fit an electric lift pump for a...

    Brake servo on a 2A Diesel ?

They've got some interesting stuff in the US. Power brakes that work off the power steering pump, and electrically operating trailer brakes. Unfortunately the latter are totally illegal in the UK (AFAIK) despite the fact that they have a built in failsafe. Not seen any electrically powered brake...

    Brake servo on a 2A Diesel ?

I'm feeling that I need to lighten the pedal pressure on my 1970 88 Diesel. My joints aren't getting any younger, long journeys are taking their toll on my right knee. Brakes are standard 88 type 10" drums all round with a non-servo master cylinder. So with late 2A wings, I can fit a series...

    seat backs questions

I put a set of sliding seat frames in my 2A, but found that they just took up more space, and made the driving position even more cramped. I'm 6' tall, so there must be plenty of owners with even longer legs than me. I ended up removing the adjustable frames and going back to the basic set up -...

    Landrover series 2a engine

Absolutely. If your '81 has the five bearing engine the flywheel and flywheel housing are different and a few other minor things but nothing really important

Disco 1 How were the Chassis’s originally painted?

The Defender chassis were made by GKN Autostructures at Hadley Castle, Telford. Once complete they were put through the automated paint plant located in the same building. The paint system was Electrophoretic, with the chassis going through a series of chemical baths and finally into a...

    Military oil cooler

I'm just wondering if I can fit the oil cooler with the civvy bonnet catch and grill. Military Land Rovers (except the lightweight) all had the series one type sprung hooks on the wing tops, and a plate riveted over the bonnet catch apparture

    Military oil cooler

Excellent. Thank you ! I had all that stuff a while ago. No idea where it all disappeared to. I suspect auto jumbles will be the best way to pick up all the bits. I never realised that there were so many parts

Anyone got a totally original Series Vehicle ?

I really wish that my pockets were deep enough to do that. My 1970 88 diesel has a series three sized 12V battery instead of the original twin 6V units, Lucas ACR alternator, and the late series three exhaust manifold and full system. All common modifications for a 2A diesel. Less common is...

    Military oil cooler

Just opened myself a can of 🪱 for myself Anyone got a parts illustration of the military type oil cooler please ? Like the complete system, cooler, pipes, flexibles. mountings, spacer blocks, sump. I believe that they were also offered as an optional extra for civvy vehicles I've got a...

    Front 1/4 chassis

If you don't feel confident, it's worth getting someone with welding and fabrication skills to do job for you. I've never had great confidence in so called "expert" Land Rover dealerships, I've seen too many **** ups by supposed experts. If the two front spring bolts aren't exactly in line...

    New chassis paint or not

Always painted mine black after a coat of mordant T wash, or whatever it's called. Don't go wild with the T wash, it strips off a layer of zinc

Series 3 The Ultimate Series Daily Driver

Only five and a half miles, which isn't much I admit, maximum 50mph speed limit, which I've probably never managed to break, not many pedestrians stare anymore, I pass them too regularly, and the novelty has long worn off, they just think "here comes that idiot in the noisy mobile tent" Some...
