FL2 08plate Not cranking over and showing Hdc fault

The only time I have seen HDC message was when battery voltage had dropped. Check voltage and clean up all earths, it may be something silly.

    Freelander 2 rear brake pads

Hippo, thanks for the reply. I checked the battery voltage and it was down to 8 volts. Charged up and started OK and alternator is charging so new battery fitted. All sorted now, I thought it was something to do with my messing around with the brakes and didn't think about other symptoms.

    Freelander 2 rear brake pads

Hi, I am new to the Freelander having been over on the Series site for many years. I have a Freelander 2 and my Daughter also has one. 2013 model year Freelander 2 with electric parking brake. I have fitted new rear brake pads unaware of any need to get the vehicle into a service mode before...

Series 3 Series III clutch issue

For all it will cost add a flexible pipe to he order. It runs down the bulkhead at the back of the engine.

    Any performance to be gained?

Range Rover diffs in a 2.25 diesel ? What a disaster that can be, I tried them and put the 4.7s back after three weeks. The 2.25 diesel will not pull the taller gearing and you spend all the time in third gear.

I recall seeing one converted years ago so it is doable. I have no idea what was used.

Series Land Rover - The Perfect Daily Driver Classic???

I have done the daily driver bit in the past, remember that there is always something wrong with a series Land Rover. Your lifestyle changes and time with the spanners is relaxation......or a challenge ?

Series 3 Diesel vacuum pump question

Just looked at the ebay link from Blackburn. I used the UP28 one from the Netherland supplier.

Series 3 Diesel vacuum pump question

Disco 1 BFG, From memory I used a Hella U28 or maybe a U30 ? I sold the series three a while ago so can't check. I bought the vacuum pump from a Dutch supplier new for around £70 (badged as a Volvo part). Very simple to fit triggered via a relay from the brake light switch. It transformed the...

    Series 3 Quicker Steering.

Series three already has provision for a steering damper. I have never felt the need to add one.

    Series 3 Quicker Steering.

Full marks for trying. I remember the first trials car I built in 1969, my own design of chassis/suspension/steering. Danced like a dolly on rough surfaces and vicious bump steer. It did improve with alterations suggested by the older guys (I was 21) who had more experience. Ultimately the car...

    wheel nuts

How late an axle ? Series 3 jobbies went to M16. Maybe find an M16 x 2 pitch nut to try or caliper/micrometer and thread gauges if you have them.

Series 3 how often does your rear transfer axel (shaft) brakes or twists?

Up to now I don't think anyone has asked if you use the parking/handbrake correctly. Never apply it if the vehicle is still moving even slightly, there is an awful lot of torque generated from the road wheel. My MOT test station always use the old Tapley meter when testing 4x4 vehicles.

Series 3 how often does your rear transfer axel (shaft) brakes or twists?

If you have missmatched front/rear diff ratios you have been lucky to only break halfshafts. It usually buggers up the gearbox.....

Series 3 how often does your rear transfer axel (shaft) brakes or twists?

When I ran series Land Rovers I only broke one in 40 years. All the ones after breaking the first I put in the lathe and undercut a groove at the hub end to make replacing easier but never had to do it. Are you oversize on tyres ? That and heavy throttle foot can be the problem.

Series 3 Diesel vacuum pump question

I have not seen a vacuum pump like that before. My series three ha the butterfly arrangement on the inlet manifold, as stated before a bit of a rubbish set up. Add on to the poor set up of butterfly arrangement 30+ years of wear and you will never get it working well. My solution was to bin the...

    Series 3 Quicker Steering.

Stick with what you have. Ensure the relay is full of oil and swivels etc are all correctly set up. Keep on top of tyre pressures and remember the Rover development engineers knew what they were doing. Apart from heavier steering messing around with it would bugger up any off road refinement.

    Series 3 gear oil

Any GL4 90 grade oil is OK for a series box. Good for swivels/steering box and steering relay to. Also OK for the front and rear diffs. Avoid the GL5 grade as it is supposed to harm any bronze bushes in the transmission.

    Series 3 rear stop/side lights

Rear number plates moved to the nearside on UK vehicles with the fitting of mandatory rear fog lights. All series rear lights are crap (but only around £3. If you are not a rivet counter fit NAS spec lights.

Finally home and picked up my first Landy.

Installation /wiring looks untidy. Should be good when sorted, have fun and don't try to rush it.
