Before a leak test just pull the leci plug on each injector in turn on tickover and note if there is any change. I had a totally blocked injector around the same miles and if it is an injector have a go at stipping it and cleaning the hole out where the tip pockes through. Put yer best reading...
Sounds like plenty fuel an no air to me. Check all inlet pipes for de lamination and collapsing. Try starting with no pipes to turbo if possible for a short time only. If it runs clean its rubber pipes. If you still get smoke its probably the turbo nacked as you have lack of power. Check turbo...

If the pull part of the handle feels floppy and not engaging it will be the two very small springs at the back that have broken down and rusted away. Can be found on fleebay. Try and get some stainless ones.

Yours is ok. Mate has a problem. Ask how often and how much he tops up. If the header level is correct, when hot it will be near full. If his isnt he has a leak somewhere in the system. Might not see it as it could be venting as a bit of steam.
