    James Mac's Defender 90 Rebuild

I fitted the bulkhead brackets. Then I fitted the recon steering box and connected everything up. Need to get myself some bigger sockets as I didn't have one to fit drop arm nut.

    James Mac's Defender 90 Rebuild

I got the bulkhead fitted today, sort of, I need some longer bolts to connect it to the chassis and need to attach the brackets but the paint is still drying on them, I should get it fitted properly mid week :) I'm so glad Iv got a engine lift to use, Iv relied on it throughout the...

S884s Defender 90 Full Galvanised Rebuild

It has loosened off a bit and it does move by hand now but it's still tight, it does however seem to turn ok when I roll the chassis

    James Mac's Defender 90 Rebuild

Quick question, I fitted the clutch and everything the other day and the rod that goes into the slave cylinder has about an inch of movement in it, is this normal, I don't have a slave cylinder to attach yet so just thought I'd check as If it is wrong now would be the time to fix it.

S884s Defender 90 Full Galvanised Rebuild

Mine did the same mate when I fitted mine, I torqued it up to the correct setting and couldn't move it, I had to use a pry bar to turn it. But I just assumed that it was normal

    Another 90 Rebuild

That seems like some top quality service for that price mate. i know lots of body shops arnt that keep on doing jobs like this, they like to have the full car and not lots of indervidual parts. I bet you can't wait to get assembling it all now!! On one hand I would like to get a body shop to...

    James Mac's Defender 90 Rebuild

Thanks mate. Shot blasting is the way to do it, I spent hours with the grinder and didn't even do 1/4 of the casing!! I wish I'd got the axle cases galved now aswel but that seemed a bit over the top at the time :) I can't wait to paint the rest but it's going to be a while.

    Another 90 Rebuild

Yeah I used 2k, I painted the galvanised brackets that attach it to the chassis in rustoloum and Iv found that it takes a few days to fully dry so probably won't fit it until mid week.

    James Mac's Defender 90 Rebuild

Cheers mate :-D Iv pretty much done as much as I can do now. I'll attach the bulkhead at some point this week and then the rebuild will be put on hold until I can take my 90 off the road so you'll have plenty of time to overtake me :)

    James Mac's Defender 90 Rebuild

After that I decided it's time to pain the galvanised bulkhead, so I gave it 2 coats of high build primer, let it dry overnight. Then I flattened it in the morning, wiped it down the sprayed the top coat. I'm surprised how well it turned out, it's not perfect, there's a few pin holes on it but...

    James Mac's Defender 90 Rebuild

I fitted new flanges to the transfer box, which then enabled me to put the new propshafts on, i tightened the front one up but left the rear loose as I'll have to take it off when I fit the disk brake conversion for the handbrake.
