Well, managed to eventually get the door card off without breaking it and unclipped the new handle and it opened using the advice above! It seems it was a combination of the rod being in the wrong hole (needs to be the top one) and an unoiled latch, so now all is good! Thanks to all for the help!

Yes, I have 2 holes on the new handle. Is it the top or bottom one, the bottom one being closer to the pivot the lever is on?

1995 300TDi Defender 110 CSW Had a trawl but cannot find an answer. I recently pulled a bit too hard on one of the second-row door handles on my 110 and it broke off so I replaced it OK but after I locked it and shut the door I can't unlock it or get it open. :mad: The lock will not 'click'...

if you've got it apart then you might as well change the bush if it's worn but agree with JM, loctite the screw

what sort of fumes? if it's not exhaust but water vapour then it could be your heater matrix could be shot? have you had to keep topping the water up?

I bought one from YRM which you can "just slide in" and has separate brackets that bolt on to the chassis! Although, it's not as easy as it's sounds and you may need jacks, crowbars and a lot of swearing to get it through the gap or big hammers and the like...

might be something on here or google or youtube, but normally it's block the pipes, drill out the rivets in the box, unclip the control cables, swap out the matrix, re rivet, etc.

if it's white fumes then most likely heater matrix has split (as said above) and when up to heat starts banging out the fumes! simple replacement job!

normally it'll be the feed pipe (item 4 below) from the blower that has come off. you'll have to get the top of the dash off and have a look!
