acoording to lrdirect the "FTC5268 fits a 24 spline axle in Land Rover Defender Discovery 1 & Range Rover Classic 92-94". must be a spline quantity thing!
I pay about £190 a year for my 1995 300tdi 110 through Adrian Flux but that's just for regular insurance not classic. Not sure if it's old enough for classic but it might be?
Apparently (but I have no way of confirming this, it's just what I've heard) its a MoT failure if your tyres touch the chassis or any metalwork?

It was adjustable but I didn't fiddle with it too much. I remember what you said about it not to be under tension and using the top hole did just that!
I did replace the latches with decent ones but I guess over the years they just eventually need some oil!
