    Alternator Question

Took it apart and no obvious issues. Did a few resistance checks all seemed ok, so suspect its the regulator at fault. The regulator is £25 and if the rectifier pack proved to have a fault thats £45. I have a new one for £92 off the dreaded bay, with a 2 year warranty so its seems the better...

    Alternator Question

So the 'pinging noise 'eventually became permanent, and was flattening the battery in a about 36 hours. So I spent the last couple of months, taking the negative connection off when I left the car for more than 12 hours. Yesterday after reconnecting the terminal, there was a noise and the...

    td4 serpentine belt 2004

Thanks for all the advice on here guys. Just removed my alternator and made a 'tool'. Cut down a 24mm socket and welded it to a bit of old metal I had. I can confirm from below the car, you move the lever towards the front (anticlockwise).

    FL1 SHOES AND SPRINGS etc

Somewhere on here I read a brilliant tip for sorting sticking rear brakes. I had rebuilt the rear brakes, new cylinders, shoes, drums and fitting kit. Thoroughly cleaned and checked all was ok. and still had issues. Then I saw someone say clean the contact point on the back plate. The back...

Brake Pedal gradually going to floor

Hi all, thank for advice, tips and help. I have just heard from Craddocks and the supplier has confirmed a fault and I have been issued a refund. Very pleased with the service Craddock's supplied with their refund process as they kept me informed. TBH I was expecting them to use a 'get out'...

    Alternator Question

Just to close this off. Its odd as the noise has now cleared for a few days, after a couple of times where it came and went. 99% sure it was the alternator as I eliminated the AC coil, and a stethoscope highlighted the sound as the alternator. I will see what happens. Thanks to all for advice.

Brake Pedal gradually going to floor

An update: I bought another brake master cylinder and fitted it and all is now ok. Pedal pumps up engine off and only sinks a small amount when the engine is started. Of interest the 1st one supplied was Britpart made in China and the second one I bought (both from Craddocks) is a Lucas MC. I...

Brake Pedal gradually going to floor

Hi Alibro, Its the servo they have never sold any of. There are no leaks, they are new rear wheel cylinders and shoes. This all started after a stuck handbrake and when try to free it noticed the sinking pedal. Then when I looked in rear drums to clean/free of all the hand brake bits found a...

Brake Pedal gradually going to floor

Checked all the flexibles and they are sound. Bled the brakes again today in hope ;-). I then noticed as the pedal sinks (my wife pressing the brake pedal) fluid comes back into the MC. I have ordered another MC and sending the original new MC back for checking as faulty. The supplier will get...

Brake Pedal gradually going to floor

Such an obvious school boy error on my part, not doing this check! Cheers

Brake Pedal gradually going to floor

A bit more. If I repeatedly use the brake pedal with engine off, the pedal goes hard and stays firm. If I then start the engine the pedal will gradually sink to the floor. This points to the servo, but I dont see how a direct acting servo can create this fault. I spoke to the supplier who would...

    Alternator Question

Hi again Nodge, would that have power with ignition off? Is that the item on the back of the HP pump? TBH using a tube as a stethoscope Im pretty sure its the alternator. Thanks again for ideas.
