    I was speaking to Keith again today and he said that if he is on a hill on full lock the car will not roll but if he comes slightly off full lock it will then roll. Apparently it does it on full lock left and right and will hold itself on quite a steep gradient.

    Sorry, my mistake. Just looked at it again and they are a new case and blade with a used remote circuit board fitted inside. However, I guess one will do the job.

    Thanks chaps. There are new ones on e-bay for about £35-00, so I think I will go for one of those and then try to find a friendly Discovery owner with Nanocom to program it.

    TD5 won't rev over 3000rpm

    Had exactly the same thing. Fuel pump failed it worked for a while, then the waste-gate got stuck. I did replace the boost modulator first but it made no difference.

    Check the waste-gate is free, it only takes a few minutes and will cost you nothing. Get some grips on it, squirt the rod with Duck Oil/Plus Gas and move it backwards and forwards a good few times. Our TD5 had this a few years ago and it seemed to hit a brick wall at just under 3000 RPM...

    Thanks for the advice chaps. It seems that they both have their Achilles heels then. We were originally thinking of a Discovery 3 but that also has the electronic handbrake, and I guess any major engine work will also be a body off the chassis job.

    I have finally got to have a look at the car. The front Camshaft plug/seal is fine and the inlet manifold is not loose, although there is one stud/bolt missing on the rear tract. The front of the alternator, behind the vacuum pump, looks to be slightly oily, so I suspect it must be the oil...

    It shouldn't be the alternator, as this was replaced just over a year ago. I will check the camshaft front seal.

    There is an oil leak around the alternator area on our TD5. There are a few drips on the underside of the alternator and on the auto gearbox pipes running to the oil cooler. It doesn't look like ATF though and the top of the alternator is clean. I need to get it cleaned off and check it...
