That's because a large quantity of the oil remains in the torque converter when you drain the box. You really need to change it two or three times to be sure of getting most of the old oil out. I have just bought a TD6 which has recently had a recon gearbox fitted and the cost of the box alone...

In Walthamstow. If it has the ID46 system it is £65. If it is the EWS system and I remove the EWS unit £40, otherwise, if he removes it about £70. It is probably best part of a 4 hour round trip for me but definitely worth it to save well over £200!
