Would that explain the difference in idle between cold and warm? As warm it’s much better Uploaded some videos

Hello I’m back. Car is a 1996 P38 DSE 160k miles manual. in the last few months it’s had the water pump, plugs, injector leak off pipes etc. I don’t have any history but my local Indy Landrover garage (who I can’t get to at the moment) says it’s had a fairly recent FIP at some point too...

As luck would have it there’s a p38 specialist about a mile away. Wonders of google. Car will be off there next week.

Ran the car without the belt. Hard to diagnose anything, because for some reason without the belt it ran so bloody rough and noisy. Could this be the lack of tension on the crank damper from the belt causing It to make more noise? Also besides noise will a worn crank pulley damper cause...

More trouble shooting. replaced the deflection pulley as it was most definitely on its way out. found some play in the power steering pump fore and aft. The pump feels smooth and spins fine still. But I’m guessing this needs to be done fairly ASAP Water pump. Had my new pump in (metal...

Done the old screwdriver trick. No obvious chain rattle or any other noises from the block. Also checked the FIP with it (just Incase). Found a pulley (smooth metal one) to the right of tensioner. Which is very very dry. New one on order but doesn’t appear like it would cause the noise that...

Definitely doesn’t sound like it’s going to die any second. you can hear it in this video. Rythmic noise almost like a train going over tracks (volume up and watch whole way through - you can hear it at the end when I put camera back inside)

Tested. No change to noise with removed MAP. I am not wondering what this rythmic clatter/vibration noise is. Every second or two. really wish the noise came over better on video! FIP looks suspiciously clean for a 150k milage car. No way of knowing if it’s been replaced but it does look clean.

Brilliant I’ll give that a try now. Should be able to upload a video of cold start today too. I’ll give unplugging the Map senior a go. What does unplugging the sensor actually do? Might be a silly question!

Got them from the local specialist in the end. So I presume so. It does actually fire up first go. And a lot better than previously. Just not perfect....

good job I’ve a new one in! can’t see any bubbles in fuel line. Does seem to be a heat thing though considering the 2x glow plug heat solves all.

Car all sorted. The old pump that came out had a metal impeller. Made out of like sheetmetal as opposed to a cast one. Looked like it could move more water than the one that’s just gone in. Play in the shaft though so it was buggered. glow plugs and leak off pipes in too. Can’t say it wants to...
