I see that 'Mercedes source' who has a channel on Youtube, sells this same Chinese set to his customers.

    Compression test

Look on Amazon for diesel engine compression testers, there are lots and the prices vary widely. I bought one a few years ago, Chinese but I won't use it very often. It cost about £20 at the time. Not bad when you consider that the local diesel specialist was going to charge me £70 to test my...

    Upgrading to halogen headlights?

Search for a thread called: "Have you ever fitted a Boomslang harness to a series?" I just tried to post a link to it and cocked it up... it's been a hard last few days... Just re-read that; rather an unfortunate choice of words there. Like I said, but in other words: been working very hard...

    Upgrading to halogen headlights?

Oh no it's not! But probably easier than making one from scratch.

    Upgrading to halogen headlights?

Absolutely! The switches take a beating and the contacts get hot until one of them fails. Learned from bitter personal experience. I'd been promising to fit relays for years before my main beam switch contact fried and dropped off, headlight switch was getting hot as well. Take the time and...

Are bearmach indicator stalks as useless as britpart

This is better...I hope... Sorry Disco, my comment wasn't aimed at your post, just my failed attempt to post this image.

Are bearmach indicator stalks as useless as britpart

I recently fitted a cheap indicator stalk, don't know what make it is, (unbranded), but I thought it was worth a punt for the price. My Lucas one burned out the main beam contact after nine years but not a lot of use at night. I did notice that the light switch was getting hot as well, so the...

    Welding in drivers footwell

As a follow up: I regret using a Britpart, flat toe-board. Had I known about them at the time I would have gone for a ribbed one at greater cost but better appearance. Or maybe one of those gourmet crisp packets which have to be better than a common or garden cheapy... Any preferences for...

2.25 petrol - changes for unleaded

Some good advice above; knock back, (retard) the ignition timing a bit. Check the valve clearances regularly because if the valves start to pocket, that is to say, they sink into the valve seats, the tappet gaps will get narrower, (tighter), giving you a warning.

Pics of mine prior to welding. Cut out old steel, clean up flanges and plug-weld.

Yes to your first question, but the whole assembly that the seats are mounted on and no to your last one.

    Seat base reinforcements

That's Dexion angle, it was used to construct shelving in industrial settings, it has no place in a Land Rover. See if you can see why some previous owner has fitted it; is the seat box rusty?

Have you ever fitted a Boomslang harness to a Series??

Took it out in the dark tonight, lights noticeably brighter. I was surprised that they were so much better, there must have been a lot of resistance in the old switches, no wonder the main switch was getting hot and the dip switch burned out. Verdict: Headlamp relays, well worth the effort.

Have you ever fitted a Boomslang harness to a Series??

Me neither but it wasn't. I had to extend the wires by about 40cm to reach. You have rubber covers? Mine are hard yellow plastic. I drilled a hole in the headlamp bowl and fitted garden hose as a grommet/harness covering. I like garden hose, it has so many uses. I have garden hose door seals and...

Have you ever fitted a Boomslang harness to a Series??

Harness fitted. I only had to extend the wires on the OS after all. I found a more direct route for the harness to go and found it was just long enough to reach the NS. I did have to cut both sides plugs off though. It was possible to get the spade terminals out of the plug body but the outer...

Fuel tank pinhole - replace or repair?

Quite right, and with Land Rover tanks often leaking at the seams or somewhere in the bottom where there are two layers making it impossible to find and repair, not a practical proposition. But, where it is possible - useful knowledge.

Fuel tank pinhole - replace or repair?

That's good Rob, I would suggest that you can dry out the water with a hot air blower much more thoroughly than trying to get it all with rags. You can get them so hot that no water could survive in there. Also a big soldering iron, (as opposed to a small soldering iron) is a better way to get...

Fuel tank pinhole - replace or repair?

I remember soft soldering a copper patch over a pinhole in petrol tanks with good success but I didn't like to mention it in case I got shouted at for promoting a dangerous practice. You will need a pretty big soldering iron to get the heat into the tank and a generous helping of common sense to...
