    P38A 2.5 diesel- want one but scared!

    I actually understood that, really appreciate your trouble, very explanative for the those of us who are new to modern engines …or relatively ‘new modern engines’ If you don’t mind me asking…is 4K a reasonable price for the work involved in replacing the liners?..given its an LPG conversion?

    Ah beer, a great friend for many a year, but now white (NZ) wine and whisky…sometimes singly and sometimes a cocktail, but lighter on an ageing stomach. A bottle of white and a couple of doubles V eight pints…..no contest…..in the getting up in the middle of the night contest..that is..-;

    Sorry, bit out of my depth here, does the liners dropping indicate the block is cracked? I’ve cancelled my D2 in order to make sure I concentrate on getting the auld sod sorted and back into the land of the living, not a money issue, it’s purely because SHMBOd pointed out if I had the D2 to play...

    Beyond me I’m afraid, the bloke who initially identified the problem has offered to do the job and replace them with top hat liners but it needs the engine out and a rebored and says I won’t get much change out of 4K….that sound a fair price?

    If that’s the sound of knackered liners that that’s coco pops for mine, that’s exactly the sound mines making.

    Meant to ask, I know dropped liners are one of the problems with the Thor but was their an average mileage when this problem developed? Cheers.

    Gave it some welly and it’s bad news the dipstick is glowing orange but also seems to be a leak on the two pipes just behind the top of the radiator as there seems to be a fair bit of UV glowing there as well. Redone sniff test that’s still negative.

    What did you do with your Range Rover today

    Started the old sod up after a couple of weeks of indecision, ran a sniff test (clear) ran an UV test (clear) briefly contemplated suicide, decided fixing the old sod would be cheaper, realised yesterday was our 38th wedding anniversary, wor lass and me, not the 38, and hadn’t commerated it...

    P38A 2.5 diesel- want one but scared!

    Will do that next, thought if the sniff (liquid remained blue after 2 tests) and oil tests (absolutely no UV) gave me something to go on I wouldn’t need to bother, but seems I need to delve deeper….any suggestions on the heater matrix? Though carpets are bone dry!.

    Done it, tried the water cap first(to make sure the kit was working ok) lit up day glow orange, oil cap and dipstick not a glimmer?

    Done a sniff test (twice) liquid remains blue! Also the UV water/oil test, water cap lit up day glow orange dip stick and oil cap not a shimmer? Going to send for a pressure tester but no supplier has got back to me to confirm that their kit will fit my 38?

    Disco 2 Considering a galvanised replacement chassis

    That looks like a full chassis, and if their product is on a par with their spelling…..Mebbes I would have me doubts? On the other hand, I wish I had known services like this existed before I parted with my beloved Disco 1, may she rust in piece.
