    P38A Laying a cable...

When I put my parking sensors in, I mounted the LCD display above the mirror (similar to MartynV8's) and ran the cable behind the edge of the headlining, simply pulled the door seals down fed the cable in past them, unpopping the A & B post covers and then ran it down inside the C post & behind...

P38A Well... Here we are again.

I might be wrong (and someone will no doubt let me know) as I've not had any trouble with the sunroof on my P38, but it looks very similar to the unit that was fitted in my Classic LSE which was identical to the unit fitted to the Rover 800 I had previously. I think they were also used in the...

    P38A Fitting parking sensors.

Tell me about it! [Cue rant!] Amongst other things, I produce operating manuals for machine tools that have to be CE certified for use in the EU - note - not just the tools, but the manuals also have to be compliant with the regulations. I've been doing these for years and you no sooner get...

    P38A Fitting parking sensors.

That reminds me of the old joke about motor engineers from BMW, Renault and Rolls Royce, in the toilet at at a conference, that has the punchline " ... at Rolls Royce they teach us not to p iss on our hands"

What did you do with your Range Rover today

I went through 3 of them doing the first 2 holes on mine. One and a bit holes per cutter, the steel inner bumper is very heavy gauge. The last drill I used was a TCT broaching cutter, MUCH better!

    P38A Fitting parking sensors.

Is there no way the plastic bit comes off without removing the bumper? Not really, while it's still attached to the car, it's held on with metal clips but also a lot of black RTV type stuff. But you may be able to get to the 2 hex bolts on either side of the longditudinal chassis rails that...

Yes - but they tend to be concurrent.

    Book symbol

I had the same 'stiff flaps' problem, tried the screw bodge but couldn't lever the 2 halves apart, so reverted to drilling 2mm hole in the bits of the airbox you can access by taking the centre vents out and removing the switch panel on the centre console. Then bent the thin tube of a can of...

    P38A Feckity feck!

So did you leave the heat shields off?, I'll be doing my HG soon and there have been a couple of posts from others who say there are problems with heat if you don't replace them. (by the way OE the manifolds on the P38 V8 are tubular steel and not cast) A

    P38A Steering intermediate shaft...

Regarding the heat shield problem - I'll be doing my HG's soon and was wondering about heat wrap instead of the accursed things, but I read somewhere that it can cause problems with corrosion and raised heat at the exhaust ports, but then I found a few reports of people just leaving the shields...

    P38A alternator

The 16v thing is not correct, I have the same reading on the nanocom for my '98 4.6 Gems - it always shows the 16v no matter what. There was a post on the Nanocom forum about it, a Bad batch of engine ECUs around 95/96 apparently, maybe mine's been replaced with an older one at some stage

    P38A Emissions fail

HSE 4.6 Gems. Failed the MOT on emisions - CO2 way too high (also on rusty NS sill but that'll be welded) Nanocom shows that bank A O2 sensor isn't switching, stays @ 4.23v, whereas Bank B alternates between 0.03 (from memory) and 3.25 ish. The long term trim on bank A is 38, and on bank B is...

Classic Idle fluctuates on V8 3.5L EFI

+1 on the AIV (stepper motor) at the rear of the plenum. Could be sticking or dirty. Also is it the hotwire or flapper airflow meter? If the former it can be - carefully - cleaned.

P38A 2 Things - Diag and where to find this door piece

Sadly, Nige is correct, RR is currently immobilised with HG probs, but I do have Nanocom and if you can make it over, you're welcome to plug it in if yours is Gems. Don't know if the hevac diag will work on other flavours. What's it not doing? Alastair

Freelander 2 (LR2) FL 2 - petrol version, any good?

Thankyou gents, for your thoughts. Economy isn't really a issue, I'll be doing less than 5k a year, and I currently have a 4.6 HSE which I once (with very great care) managed to get 22mpg! So I'm used to fuel figures in the low to mid teens . . . More research on parts availability, etc is...

Freelander 2 (LR2) FL 2 - petrol version, any good?

Hi all - I normally inhabit RR forum, but SWMBO is making noises about a newer, more reliable (ha) LR, so I've been looking at FL2. We don't do enough mileage to make diesel a sensible proposition and I don't like diesel anyway. There seem to be very few petrol versions around, (8 nationally on...

    P38A 4.6 V8 MY2000 overheating. Intermittent

Have you changed the pressure cap? When it overheats and steam appears, where is the steam coming from? The overflow from the expansion tank or elswhere? Pressure caps on these can be weird. ie if the top hose is rock hard, the cap's holding pressure, but if steam's escaping there's a leak and...

    Other silence

Well mine's immobilised after a fairly comprehensive HGF - hydro-locked No7 with coolant bleeding into adjacent No 5 cyl. Trying to work up the time and enthusiasm to fix it. On the upside it still runs remarkably well on 6 and it had a complete top overhaul by the professional racing engine...
