    Reverse light switch wire

Yesterday I was plodding along minding my own business when I suddenly heard a loud rattle beneath my feet. I popped under the vehicle and found a short length of wire wrapped around the propshaft. The vehicle is a 1989 90 fitted with 300tdi and r380 (retaining the original wiring loom). It...

    Leaking PAS box

It's the input seal, i.e. the one that seals the shaft connected to the steering column. It can be done in situ but requires loads of patience (a virtue I'm not very well known to have).

    Leaking PAS box

Seems to be the top seal this time dammit. Time to remove the box. Not looking forward to it at all.

    Leaking PAS box

I have recently fitted what was supposed to be a leak-free PAS box to my 90. 2 weeks after fitting, the bottom seal let go in a sudden, spectacular fashion and I boiled it down to the box having been kept in storage for quite a while. i replaced the bottom seal and all was fine for a few...

    Durite water temperature gauge

Solved. A new gauge which cost half as much as the Durite unit did and it works perfectly across the range. I must say that I am very disappointed with Durite's customer service.

    Durite water temperature gauge

To be veyr honest with you i am rather disappointed at Vehicle Wiring Products. i emailed them and got a reply referring me to Durite. I am a buyer by profession and know my rights. My supplier is Vehicle Wiring Products not Durite. If someone wants to bring something up with the manufacturer...

    Durite water temperature gauge

The saga continues. According to my electrician, the gauges and sender units are not matched up (even though they came out of the same box). Two gauges and 3 sender units and the problem remains. We even tried wiring them up outside the vehicle on a test bench and got the same results. i'll...

    Durite water temperature gauge

The saga ain't over yet. I have ordered another gauge (including sender), fitted it and got exactly the same result. 50 quid down the drain (not to mention another sender unit). At this point I can only blame a dodgy earth connection. How does one go about checking an earth connection? I...

Cant engage gear with engine running

Have you removed the pressure plate? In such cases I usually find broken springs on the clutch plate.

    You're the man. Thanks James.

    Diff lock switch

After the rebuild, the difflock light on my 90 is not illuminating therefore I need to investigate. It has been quite a while since I replaced it and I totally forgot how to access it. Do I need to remove the centre seat or the driver's side floorpan? Furthermore, how do i check whether it is...

    300TDi Swap Over Help

Once you're at it, you may consider installing the R380 gearbox. If I am not mistaken you can use your LT77 as a donor to convert it to long stick (and have the levers in the correct positions) and sit the gearbox on the LT77 mounts thus using your existing propshafts and tunnel / floor panels...

Cant engage gear with engine running

Clutch springs mate. Time to lift engine or drop gearbox i'm afraid.

    Cambelt change

There is really nothing to be afraid of to replace a cambelt. Land Rover tdi engines for example are totally idiot proof. Just use the right tools (which do not cost a bomb) and it's a doddle. I must admit that the first time I did one scared the daylights out of me. Just be methodical...

Fuel Sender or Fuel Gauge, which is more likely at fault?

Rather than post a new topic, would appreciate your advice about the exact opposite. I replaced the sender unit a couple of years ago and since then, the gauge will only show 3/4 of a tank when brimmed. Should I fish it out and bend the wire a little bit?

    Durite water temperature gauge

Sorry for the late reply Karls. i haven't logged in for a few days. I already had a boost gauge tapped into the wastegate pipe, so i just replaced the gauge with the Durite unit. I am not too sure whether I did it the right way though. The capillary tube is much thinner than the t-piece...

    Sparks from exhaust

My 300tdi has been idle for almost 4 months. I have just given it a 5 mile run and was really surprised to see sparks flying out of the exhaust! When I rev it, it resembles an angle grinder! What on earth could it be?
