Bent Con rod- how to tell?

Thanks all, will give those a go.

Bent Con rod- how to tell?

OK, see my previous thread about flushing the diesel pump for the full story. I've now got my engine running again having cleaned out more or less everything and replaced the lift pump and I'm now more or less ready to go apart from fitting a new air filter and changing the oil but before I do...

    Flushing Diesel pump

So it turns out it was a knackered lift pump, thanks for all the advice!

    Flushing Diesel pump

There was definitely water in the fuel lines, as suggested I've pulled the lines off the injectors and cranked it till nothing else came out, now struggling to prime, seems to be no resistance on the lift pump lever, new one is on its way now. Yes the air filter did get wet but I think the...

    Flushing Diesel pump

Yeah the engine turns over on the starter without any odd noises but there was a bit of water in the air intake, I think I'd switched it off before too much got in. There was a good litre of water in the fuel tank though, I assume that the filter would remove the muck but the water itself would...

    Flushing Diesel pump

Yeah I may well give that a go, was just trying to save faffing around more than I needed if there was an easy way around.

    Flushing Diesel pump

So after a misadventure on Salisbury Plain on Sunday involving a deeper-than-anticipated mud hole, a large volume of water and 4 nice blokes who dragged me out and spent a good couple of hours trying to empty water out of my engine, we discovered water had got in the fuel tank. I've since got...

I need to have a look at my on-call weekends and then maybe we can float some dates and see what works for everyone.

    East Sussex calling

Hi Steve, keep an eye on this thread then, there are plenty of less severe lanes in East Sussex that would be fine in a freelander- so long as you're not too precious about the paintwork- they can be a little scratchy in places, be good to organise a get together sometime.

You might struggle on the Jevington lane with a rack on thee were a few low hanging branches at points!

    East Sussex calling

No worries guys, maybe next time. We started from Hastings and headed west, picked up a section of the old marsh road near Hooe, disappointing in the most of it is closed off with locked gates, I guess being right beside the A259 it's a bit tempting for fly tippers, then on to the first 100...

I know it's short notice but I'm heading out on Sunday to do some of the lanes along the Sussex downs if any of you fancy it?

    Brake setup

Thanks guys all very helpful, yeah there was a lot of muck in and around the calipers so that sounds likely, I'll have another look and might chuck new ones in for good measure. Is there any difference between the newer defender/disco rear axle or is it common to both?

    Brake setup

So we had my 1990 defender up on the ramp to give her a good look over, in the process of which my mechanic pointed out that the pads on my rear brakes seem to be overlapping the discs, the top edge of the face of the pad seems to be about 3mm higher than the outer edge of the disc, not a...

Awesome, I know the lane at Firle, at least, I know where the other end of it is at Alfriston, the one at Jevington looks good too.

    East Sussex calling

Hi folks are any of you still floating around? I'm in Hastings, been laning a couple of times but would be good to have some other people locally to go with, I know most of the Sussex lanes are shut till end of March but would be keen to check some of them out after that, or up into Kent or...

Another eBay Defender that doesn't look right...

There does seem to be rather a lot of this around at the moment, when I was looking for my defender a month or two ago I kept coming across them- almost all listed the location as generically 'London' and wanted contact via email, as far as I can tell they're cloning other people's listing (or...
