Series 3 Correct bulkhead VIN plates - where from?

I've got a Series 3, 1971. I'll go and look at it later for you

    Series 3 restomod

Yes, as its a "modified Range Rover chassis" it is therefore not a 2a, the DVLA points system relies on the chassis for the first 5 points, the change of transmission and axles will also deduct points. This would be better ( and more legally) marketed as a Range Rover.

    Military number plates

I agree too, and earlier Land Rovers (109s and Lightweights) had silver on black as well. I only saw 1 Lightweight with white letters and that was a locally made 'stencil' number plate.

    Series 3 restomod

Yes but if you mate a V8 to a 'stubby LT77 or R380 that would give you a little more wiggle room. The Stage 1 V8 used the LT95 with a standard long bellhousing. If, and its a big if, you could find an LT95 from a 101, they had shorter bellhousings so would again give you more room. The Lt95...

    Wheel nuts

Ebay has plenty of sets, complete with key socket. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LAND-ROVER-DEFENDER-ALLOY-WHEELS-LOCKING-WHEEL-NUT-SET-SET-OF-5-RA018C/322466932080?hash=item4b1486e570:g:WoIAAOSwZLhY27Go Paddocks and Craddocks probably sell the same

    Series 3 restomod

I agree, it might be possible to alter the front end of a 90/110 to look like a Series 3 (recessed Rad panel and grill). Space would then be at a premium in the engine bay but a V8 shouldn't be much longer than a straight 4.

72 series 3 petrol ignition switch mystery.....

I've bought 'new' ignition switches before that are incorrectly marked. As you did I wired it up as per the book and got nothing, it was just trial and error to get it working correctly. I just put it down to a rogue 'Friday' switch but it might just be that all copies are badly assembled/marked.

Series 3 1 x SU Carb does not react when adjusting the mixture

Have your dash pots got oil in? And of the correct grade? I know a lot of people just use engine oil but IIRC they need 20w monograde oil in them. Googling SU dash pot oil viscosity brings up some healthy debate on the subject.

    110 Paint code question

Early 110s were Bronze Green ( I think) LRC 001which what yours looks like to me. The lighter green may be Eastnor Green LRC419 used on later models, just before they became Defenders

As @Bantam1 says prime, paint then Waxoyl or Dinitrol. I'm sure I've read people get good results with Linseed Oil but you'd need to research that for yourself

Series 3 Grinding noise from gearbox in reverse

Grinding is not good (in a gearbox anyway!) I'm no gearbox specialist but I'd say its a bearing issue. Those that have tried have said series gearboxes are simple beasts and are (fairly) simple to work on. Doesn't help your frustration though of having to take the gearbox out again. (or...

    Prop shaft

If you post this question in the Freelander section you'll get the full story but basically the Viscous Coupling Unit (VCU) seizes up due to lack of use(?). The whole drive train 'winds up' identifiable by scuffing on the outer edges of the rear tyres, though it is possible to hide this by...

    Coolant mystery....<again>!

I had a coolant loss mystery on my TD5 90 last year. Like you I had coolant level dropping without obvious cause. Turns out it was the hose from the heat exchanger/fuel cooler to the water pump (I think).. It was rubbing on the chassis and had a micro hole in it. It would blow out coolant...
