Price rises are shocking at the moment. Wage rises don't seem to be keeping up.

    Steve's unexpected Series 3 rebuild.

Bodywork is hard and tedious. The bulkhead behind the seats is my next target. It's had a bit of a pasting in the past and looks like loads in the rear tub may not always have been as secure as they should have been. Given the overall state of the bodywork I mustn't get carried away with trying...

Don't say that. I'm pinning all my hopes on retirement. 😆

Very little progress. Here's what there is. All the weld seams sealed over with Puraflex 40. That stuff is becoming my first choice for fixing everything. Not pretty but it is effective. Then primed all over with hammerite special metals primer solely because the lid of the tin was going rusty...

Great to see the project on the go again. If only we didn't have to go to work we could make so much progress with the projects.

    S3 109 Safari project......

Lovely job. It's perfect how you are always just nicely ahead of where i'm up to. It means I get a nice bit of warning about what to expect. :D

I suppose the luxury end of the market is where the money is but it's sad that land rover no longer make the kind of vehicles that made the company in the first place. Also talking to the chap the other day he was saying he had to take a new defender to the JLR dealership for a plug in and reset...

I was talking to the chap on the stand for a while and we both agreed that you can't beat an old series landy. :D

Here's something a bit off topic. Been to the Notts county show today at the Newark showground and got a look an the Ineos Grenadier for the first time in the flesh. I really like it. Don't get me wrong I have no need for one and couldn't begin to afford one any way but if those lottery...

    Steve's unexpected Series 3 rebuild.

Those de-mister things already look a bit dried out in the photo. Maybe why they're cheap. I've been looking at big sheets of the EVA. Still thinking about it. Going to wait until i'm ready for fitting it for final decisions. As it stands the dash is another piece that's in storage in the...

Just found something interesting. Need two of these. One missing altogether and the other is perished beyond redemption. Seal for Demister Tube SER.3.Part No. 346785 NOW £8.18 exc. VAT £9.82 inc. VAT As you can see £9.82 including the VAT from Craddocks. Paddocks as always are a little bit...

    Colour Change

I'm in the middle of painting mine. Have a look here, https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/steves-unexpected-series-3-rebuild.292955/page-40 I was dead set on brush painting until I tried it. I got a cheap spray set up and I'm doing it in the garage at home. I've got no previous experience and...

So that's what it's called. That has got me intrigued. Just been looking into it and I see it can be moulded by heating it. Could be the salvation of the ruined dash covering.

Talking about the crash pad i've been doing more experimenting. The expanding foam is very good overall and if the damage is not too bad I think it would do. Big areas will definitely sink back a bit though, enough to have a visible dent when the vinyl is on. Hard to see in the photo but the...

    Steve's unexpected Series 3 rebuild.

Next it was time to do the good side of this part of the dash. It doesn't look bad in the photo but I think someone in the past had painted over the rust with some horrible paint and the resulting finish was a pig to get off. I started with one of those vicious twist wire brushes on the grinder...

Last bit of dash welding! Don't know if series 3's are supposed to have clocks but a hole had been hacked / chewed into the dash for one. This is the hole after some squaring up. And with it all done it's time for another offer up. All the screw holes line up and it looks ok. Might go with...

Thanks. The vinyl and foam are going to be a bit of an adventure. The foam padding is absolutely knackered. Don't know whether to try and save it or just find something completely new. I'm going to have a think.

    Steve's unexpected Series 3 rebuild.

Time to finalise that corner of the dash. I left plenty of metal spare thinking it would make it easier but still had difficulty getting it to meet up with the curved piece already in place. Not good really but i'd got to the point of keep going and make it work or chop it all out and start...
