    Issues changing down when towing

hi, I'm having a bit of a gear change issue. When driving normally generally ok but have a slight issue sometimes changing in lower gears and clutch feels a bit notchey. I think the clutch fork release arms are a bit worn. When towing changing up is fine but changing down from 5th to 4th is...

Too high mileage to tune and if not what's the best option.

Well to update this thread I can report that Land Rover is now remapped. Deleted the EGR, decatted the exhaust and Mike from Dynachip worked his magic this morning. He did what he called a strong map which is meant to be about 170bhp and if I fit a bigger intercooler it will give me even more...

    TD5 EGR delete solenoid issue

Thanks. will block off the t piece, might even change the pipe for a solid one. Will leave the actuators in place in case mot rules change. Is getting remapped tomorrow. Will clean the inlet manifold out when I get time. Catch can seems a good idea. Decatted it today seems to rev a bit better...

    TD5 EGR delete solenoid issue

Disconnected the electrical connectors on the modulators as suggested on alive website. Started engine and left is sitting. In a couple of minutes the buzzing started again. Not sure how this can happen when the power is disconnected !

    TD5 EGR delete solenoid issue

hi I deleted my EGR yesterday in preparation for a remap. It's an EU3 engine. Was pretty simple and I think it has made my engine pull slightly better from low down. Manifold and EGR valve itself were wet inside with oil sludge so will hopefully stop that gunk going in the engine. I have...

    Monroe rear shock absorbers

To finish off the thread I have fitted new Monroes all round. First I did the back and took it for a run to see if there was any handling issues. In short there were, back end was firm and front was very soft in comparison and could catch someone out if they weren't paying attention. Got new...

    Rear trailing arm bushes

Thought I would revive this as I have now solved the annoying clunk and it may help others. So before I did anything I would say the clunk was a 10. Clunked every gear change and whenever you let off the throttle and then put the power back on. Landrover also felt like it was oversteering a lot...

    Monroe rear shock absorbers

Have ordered Monroes from Amazon for backs and fronts from paddocks. My mate fitted Monroes to the back of his Land Rover td5 no prob and he rates them. They had a different part number from the ones on on paddocks (D6629 instead of M6629). Info on web is confusing but D6629's seem to fit TD5's...

    Monroe rear shock absorbers

I have looked at these and on paper they do look good. I would think they are probably a better bet than the Gas britparts . Paddocks certainly seemed keen on them. Only problem is that some people say they are bad for getting mud etc in behind the rubber cover and rusting and my landy is quite...

    Monroe rear shock absorbers

Thanks but They're just britparts, paddocks are cheaper.

    Monroe rear shock absorbers

Spoke to paddocks and they told me that the Monroes they have are for a pre-98 defender. Seems a bit odd to me, have done more searching and as you say some sellers seems to say the Monroes will do for all defenders. I have noticed that britpart and others seem to differentiate between pre and...

    Monroe rear shock absorbers

hi Am going to fit some new shocks to back of my 2005 90 TD5 as they are phecked. Is handling like an old rowing boat just now. Was looking to fit Monroe shocks as they might be a bit better than the britpart ones I've fitted before. Went on to paddocks and the Monroes they have seem to only be...

    Rear trailing arm bushes

Have just done this and you can turn the lifted rear wheel about an 1/8 of a turn. If you have all wheels on the ground, in neutral and hand brake off there is maybe half that slack in the rear propshaft. I know landrovers by design have quite a lot of slack in the transmission but don't know...

    Rear trailing arm bushes

Well sorry to revive this but I have replaced the a frame ball joint when putting a new tub floor in and while the clunking has improved slightly it is still there if I am not completely sympathetic with my gear changes. The hinges on the back door are completely knackered so they make a lot of...

    Defender 90 TD5 - Remapped. Power issues beyond 65mph

Well sierrafery you are right that you never claimed that heat dives a turbo but someone else on this thread (namely ozzydeano) did repeatedly and to be honest I couldn't be bothered replying to the pair of you independently. I asked you to produce a proper experiment to prove your claims and...

Defender TD5 Wont start - Gremlins?

I know when they play up it can be a right pain in the ass but sure this will turn out to be some silly problem. Sometimes it can be difficult because a lot of things are wrong or about to go wrong at the same time, happens with old landrovers, I had an alternator, starter motor and tank lift...

    Defender 90 TD5 - Remapped. Power issues beyond 65mph

I asked you to provide a link to an experiment done on a test bed and you did that. I see what they say but I am still struggling with this one. I own two of the exact same Cummins engines they use (in tractors) both of which are putting out over 900nm at full torque and given that changing gear...

    Defender 90 TD5 - Remapped. Power issues beyond 65mph

so this means you can explain how exhaust gas temps work with turbos right It means I understand that when the fuel and air combusts it explodes and the resultant increase in gas and pressure pushes the piston down and then what's left of the gas and pressure created by the explosion goes out...
